Will I slow down my hard drive ?

Will I slow down my hard drive by adding a DVD rom to my secondary IDE. I have IBM 7200rpm 100 ATA. My other IDE is already occupied by the rewritable CD and Zip drive.

thanks

The only "problem" you will run into is if you access your hd at the same time you are using your dvd drive. Since ide devices can't communicate on the cable at the same time they will have to take turns which will cause a slow down or corrupted data.

I'm sorry. I don't think I made myself clear. Let me rephrase that. My first IDE connector has the hard drive on the primary and the slave is currently emptly.
My second IDE connector has rewritable CDRW on the primary and Zip drive on the slave.

Sounds much better ?

It still isn't going to matter at all. The net bandwidth between all of those devices shouldn't threaten the 100MB/S available via the IDE interface. This is true even more so because of the fact that at most two or three of those devices will be in use at the same time.
