If you go up to further math, and 85/86 or 89 will be much better for you. They can do so much more than the 83 does...

I dont know about your class, but my younger brother whos going in to 9th grade and taking the standard non accelerated math classes needs to get a TI-83+. Same with my younger cousins. This is in NY btw.

well thats becuase they are teaching how to do math using a graphing calculator, and not how to do math by hand. you dont need a graphing calculator for pretty much anything in HS, i got through geometry, algerbra II, and half of trig/pre calc without one. then i got one for the SATII math IIC test.

even though i have one, i feel that they detrimental if used incorrectly. i have a friend that couldnt do a single algebra II problem by hand to save his life.

I swear by a TI-86... I've had mine for about four years, I love it. I haven't seriously used it in a class since my junior year of high school (three years ago), but it's been great to play games on since then.

Once you get to college, I can guarantee you'll find little use for it, except on homework assignments - and even that is mostly stuff you could figure out on a $10 scientific calculator from Fred Meyer.

Same for me... I learned how to do most algebra calculations by hand - the only thing I've forgotten is the formula for figuring square roots.

Nah, whizzed by Algebra II without graphic calculator, you will need a scientific one though. That should get you by Algebra II and Trig.

That should be sufficient to get you through most any math class you could ever take. Most universities don't allow calculators on math finals.

I've used a TI-85 since i can't remember when.. i must admit that i never drew one graph or did anything other then 44*33=... but it was the best investment because you can program stuff into it.. such as equations, formulas, definition of words, and even answers to exams if your friend is taking the same class earlier in the day.. lol :) that calculator got me through chemestry.. ;)
