i currently am upgrading my computer to a intel 2500k, msi p67 board, and crossfire 6850's for swotor.

i have a sata 3.0 drive right now.

will it be worth it to upgrade to a 60 or 120 ssd...or even a sata 6.0?

the price for ssd is only thing holding me back.

would there be any real differance in performance other than loading times?, it wont affect framerates will it?

just dont want to bottleneck if sata 6.0 is pretty cheap upgrade or even a small ssd.

-Edit-

ill be goin with 8 gigs of ram...

forgot to mention i have a 6850 right now, i wasnt gonna get a second until the game came out and saw the performance to see if i really needed another.

being the scope of game it is..i would hope it supports crossfire :D

People will probably say otherwise but I don't think it will hold you back very much (if at all) in games. SSD can work to increase your minimum framerate and prevent studdering associated with loading off the HDD but with enough ram and a reasonably fast hard drive I don't see that being a problem.

The reason most people suggest to upgrade to SSD is for the feeling of instant responsiveness. You may want to grab a z68 board if you want to do an SSD down the line for the SSD caching it offers.

EDIT:

My only other issue with your build is I've never seen mention of crossfire support for star wars: the old republic which I assume you are referring to. Doesn't mean they won't have it but I'd want to confirm that before you go for two 6850s. Depending on your res something like a better single card might make more sense, and then you could spend extra for an SSD.

if you're getting a new system with a z68 board, you might as well do the caching with an ssd. even a $99 intel 311 20GB drive will be nice.

Money was also the thing that holds me back from going SSD all the way. So I chose to use the "poor man's SSD" solution instead. That is to buy an Intel Z68 motherboard that supports Intel RST. Now my 1TB runs like SSD. $130 for the fast AData S511 60Gb SATA3 with TRIM SSD (550 Mb/s Read, 500 Mb/s Write) and another $180 for the ASRock Z68 Extreme4. Cheap!

EDIT:
I ditched my 5x1TB RAID0 config for a 1x1Tb + SSD + RST. The latter is much faster!

adata s511 sounds good, 550mb read nice, guess thats on my list now beenholding out since g2 80gb ssd's that i bought for each computer that really seem fast enough for me but tempting now.. dont know what this z68 talk and rst is tho so guess might have to pick up those as well.. as far as holding you back no just will load slightly slower is all

SSDs work best for gaming if you play games with instances, map, or massive texture set loading.

Just FYI:

Z68 is a particular Intel chipset, their latest out, features SSD caching (RST) that basically stores all your most frequently used programs on a small SSD and everything else on your normal hard drive. You don't determine what goes on the SSD, it does it automatically, you just notice the improved load times for all your frequently used programs.

SSDs give the best improvements for MMOs where everything is instanced and/or it loads massive texture sets for entire regions as you move around.

I got my SSD to improve boot time. I always put off rebooting my PC due to Windows Update (enabled no auto-restart in gpedit.msc).. sometimes for months (can't be good). The reason is it while it may take 1-2 minutes to see the desktop, it takes much longer before I can pop open any application. With this new SSD, man I don't mind rebooting at all.. everything comes up and is usable within a minute! Even the updates themselves install superfast and I can still work without feeling slowed down.

Before you run out to buy the S511, there's something weird going on with my system - the system hangs, sometimes everything freeze, other times the system freezes but the mouse is moveable (with a spinning circle) and many times it freezes but returned back to my control after 3-5 minutes. I Google'd and here's a similar find:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/265061-32-vertex-freezes-windows

We all run Windows 7 x64, the S511 is also using a SandForce and I have reinstalled the OS several times already but to no avail. I am not too sure if it's a hardware problem or a software problem yet but it definitely has something to do with the SSD. Because prior to switching to SSD I backed up the Windows with Acronis and restored it after installing the SSD. Freezes happened afterwards. At first I blamed on Acronis but now I have second thoughts since I have now reinstall Windows 7 x64 from scratch.

More troubleshooting required. Probably need to reinstall Windows with fewer software and see....

[EDIT]
Since disabling HDD Sleep/Suspend, the system hasn't hang for 3 or 4 hours. So far so good....
