Will I go blind?

I have recently decided to use my computer for something useful, so I joined a web-dev team with some friends of mine, and basicly I started feeling the space crunch of 1152/864 on my 17' and bumped the res up to 1280/1024 and im afraid that im going to go blind

A lot if it depends on the quality of your monitor. Another factor is the quality of your eyes. I ran 1600x1200 on my 17" monitor for a while, and I was fine. Other people would get headaches just looking at the screen, though. Run the new resolution for a while. If your eyes start to hurt, switch back.

my monitor is one of the best 17"ers you can buy, sony E200

I had perfect 20/20 when I started working at my job two years ago. This past July, I had to get glasses. My nearsightedness got way bad. Computer monitors in general are bad for your eyes. But I'd say spend a few bucks to get a second vid card and monitor and do the dual setup. Develop on one and preview (and surf Anandtech) on the other.

good idea, I have a dual-head videocard already, now I just need a 2nd monitor

you'll be fine.. i run 1600x1200 on a 19" so 1280x1024 is perfect for a 17, esp one as good as an e200

Depends, if you have good eyes and aren't squinting it's not too bad. Refresh rate is a factor as well. People say min of 75hz, but it's definitely gotta be 85hz for me.

For almost 4 years, I used 1024x768 on a 15" at 60hz. At the time it didn't seem bad because I was used to the crappy refresh rate but after I used a new monitor, 60hz just kills my eyes within minutes and then I get a headache. But from those almost 4 years, I can tell my eyesight is DEFINITELY worse. Not a good thing.
