I think youll be fine. My roomate got in with far less academics than you, but then again, he was a transfer from a state univ.

Why's your GPA so low? The SAT score is good, that'll help. Are you from Washington State? Why go so far to go to NYU?

I just love how high school students do community service for the sole purpose of putting it on their college applications. I'd be surprised if the admissions people don't see right through that.

Please, no swearing on these boards. We try to keep a family-oriented environment here. Thanks.

yes you will get into NYU

and no i don't think NYU is worth it. sure it's better than any of the SUNY's, ST. John's and whatever in NY, but you pay Columbia-like money for NYU...

try for columbia also. hell go and try one of the UC's and move away. dorming is fun, trust me!

wow, that's pretty offensive. Motion for ban?

Honestly, I had a friend with just as good stats if not better then yours.

1530 SAT, 106 weighted GPA, bunch of ECs (drama, student groups, etc). He had great essays and recommendations.

He was rejected from both NYU and Columbia. Wound up going to Brandies. Just because your stats are up there doesn't guarantee anything.

On a related note, another friend with far inferior stats (1200 SATs, probably around a 98 weighted average) wound up getting into the school. Isn't that a b!tch.

I don't think those stats will get you in Columbia.... you're gonna need more than that. but for NYU, it looks like you'll get in

Why do one when you can have both?

um, 30 hours the entire time you've been in high school is not impressive. i know people who get that in half a semester...

also, i wouldn't list IM sports as they aren't a real "varsity" sport that they're looking for. as a former varsity athelete, i'd get mad if someone who played basketball on their lunch hour was given as much attention as the hours i spent after school playing sports and then going to away matches and still keeping up the gpa.

your SAT score is nice, your GPA is a tad low. go get the US news college rankings and see how first your numbers stack up. if you were hoping to get in on a comprehensive review, i don't know if you have enough (i.e. you didn't list leadership positions, club membership outside of chess club, etc.)

if your community service is someplace significant (i.e. i want to be a doctor and i candy striped at a local hospital) that's a better mention than "30 hours of community service."

and write a kick ass admissions essay. nyu is private, so get good recs.
