will i get a warranty if i mod the card, please read..

Hi,

I've asked similar question before..
the story is this, my ATi R9800 pro was modded to R9800XT

but weeks ago, my card burnt.. I believe the power connector (white) has a pin was burnt. The technician there told me that. and have it sent to the factory to fix it...

If the technician there can't turn on my card, they won't notice my card was modded to XT, and if they really change power connector, and once they turn on the card, they will notice it is a R9800XT, not a R9800pro, will they charge me on that?

So what your asking is, will ATI find out that your trying to screw them. Right?
Most likely they will find out and not only charge you for the repair, but press charges against you for warranty fraud. They're really getting serious about this kind of fraud. Cost's the companies and the end consumer in the end.

Your warranty was voided when you flashed that bios. You should not have sent it back.

I would brace yourself, because you are going to get a crap load of flames once more people see this thread. To avoid this and other problems i would call ATI or wherever you sent it and let them know.

I seriously doubt they would press charges. If they contact you and ask, just be up front would be my suggestion. Likely have to pay for the repair.

That's why they are taking stops to prevent flashing. And I would doubt they would press charges for warranty fraud, it's not worth their time. They would just charge for the repair. It's easier that way.

You'll probably get away with it, Radeon is good to their customers. But if I were you I'd just get an x800 series as a replacement .

So you ALREADY sent it in?

i think you should simply wait to see what ATI does.

actually i don't think they will "press charge", this will even cost them more and time..

but i love this card, just didn't let me down at any games, yet., just fyi, i just softmod it. i guess i "flash" the card to 9800xt... I was planning to get another ATi X800 or pro.. however, just too many good things from nvidia, and tend me to the 6600/GT series, now i am thinking about 6800/GT if the price is right...

I really need to know if i need a 256MB of ram in the new card.
mostly i will run games at 1280*1024, I don't know if i will do AA/AF(seems AA/AF will make videocard really really HOT!!)


really need people helping me to choose which is my next videocard.

YES! get 256MB vRAM on your next videocard (if you want a nice upgrade over your current card . . . i'd suggest the 6800gt or one of the x800 cards if you want to stick with ATI.

Dude, it's dead, and you voided your warrenty, so help stop the spread of bad customer service and don't send it in. Go out and buy yourself a nice and new shiny 6800GT with 256mb of RAM from Leadtek, BFG or eVGA, and be happily ever after.

I have the VGA silencer on the board for cooling.. the clock rate i put on my signature was just the max i used. I don't use this clock rate all the time..
I got this card last May...10th i believe..

oh really want to get 6800gt 256mb AGP, need to find a good brand and price first.!!

Since flashing had nothing to do with why it failed, they may just be nice to you if they notice it has been flashed.

Personally, I think they'll just toss it in a bin and send you something else back and they'll never know it was flashed.
