LOL! That's cool, if that's way you decide IQ. Whatever floats your boat.

you mean, looking at images isn't how you determine image quality?

samples have been posted and you refuse to back up your claim that the IQ of the d90 and xsi aren't in the same league. why? you can't tell the difference and you won't admit it.

Nope not what I mean at all. You just don't get it, but that's cool.

I admitted I can't tell the difference with the sample pics you posted. Are you skipping over my words somehow?

you said you weren't even going to try.

again, is there something wrong with looking at pictures? if you can find hosting i'll post the 100 quality jpegs that are 12 MB each. i doubt you call tell a difference between the 70 quality jpegs that i posted and the 100 quality versions, though.

maybe i'll print them and mail them to you and you can try that? would that be ok?

No, I don't understand why you are saying that the D90 and XSi are one or more leagues apart in image quality. That's why we're all asking for you to explain this to us, or take back what you said.

Really, I appreciate it, but it's not worth all that. And even then, I doubt I could tell you which camera made what. But if you'd like to send me some 20 X 30s out of the kindness of your hart, I'll take them. :)

What I am saying is that the cameras are leagues, well at least a league apart. Personally I believe the IQ is better on the D90, and they are not the same as asserted. Is the IQ a league apart? Well I guess that depends on how you define a league. I do see a difference in larger prints, and I will stick to that.

If it helps I'll just say that it's just my opinion so we can all move along. I had a link or two ready to throw up to back my personal opinion.. but seriously I don't make a dime from anyone buying a Nikon and I am not interested in continuing a debate.

In the end it's all about what makes you happy. Make your choices based off of that and you'll never go wrong. I'm not about all the geeky pixel peeping and nerding out over sensor reviews and tests. I'd rather be out making good photos.

To me, 100W, X, Y, and Z are in the right order from worst to best.

this is great... i can start fights without even going over to p&n...

i've been doing a bit more reading and such, and will probably get the d90 with the kit lens...

but a d40 with the 18-200vr seems like an interesting option... takes maximum advantage of the camera... and is a lens that would probably be kept if i end up deciding i need a better body...

sorry about hijacking your thread.

the 18-200 is a great piece for what it is, but it's still a superzoom and involves a lot of compromises. i dunno if nikon has an equivalent to the 18-55IS, 55-250IS pair that canon has, but if nikon does they're probably optically better across the board

I currently own the 18-200mm VR. I purchased it a year and a half ago to replace my previous 18-55mm and 55-200mm. It has much better build quality and faster autofocus (but all are equally quiet). It has mostly the same optical quality as the 18-55/55-200 kit lenses, and weighs as much as the two of them combined.

no worries for me for the chatting in the thread... it's all good info as far as i'm concerned... there's so littl etruly objective difference in these things (at least at the humanly precieveable level) that it almost ends up being religion...

and although the 18-200 is a 'compromise', the compromise is at a level that's not going to be noticed by the likes of me it seems...

i went for the d90 kit... i'll play with it for a while then see if i need a bigger lens... the thing's heavy enough with the 18-105 lens!!!

anyone have 'favorite settings' they'd like to share? i cruised kenrockwell and am trying some of his tips...

this thing sure is a monster...
