Will I be able to run BF2?

My current system is
Specs: (its an Emachines)
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (running at 2164.8mhz/1.664volts/FSB=166.5/BUS speed=333mhz
512mb RAM (Samsung DDR PC2700/ frequency 166.5mhz)
MS-6734 motherboard
80gb WD Hard Drive
40g WD Hard Drive
MGE Vigor 400w Power Supply

AND THE BEST PART!
ATI Radeon 9000 series (64mb) Video card -it's a killer

My goal is wanting to be able to play BF2 without spending too much money as I will be upgrading entire system in a year or so.

Q1
Can I run BF2 with a GPU upgrade and a little bit more ram with my current processor?
Q2
If so which AGP card should I go with in order to do this?

I'm thinking a 6800gs would be my best choice when it comes out but I'm also wondering what my cheapest choice would be that would allow me to run at about 1024x768 with medium settings? Could a FX5700 run it (might be able to get one very cheap)

Thanks for the comments.

9800pro would be a suggestion if every dollar counts, but if you can spend the $200 for the gs, it's well worth the investment. as for ram, it would run fine on medium with 1gb, it's only high that needs 2gb, whereas the 6800gs wouldnt have any trouble handling high, but limited to medium because of only 1gb. im neglecting the 5700 because the fx 5000 series stank, therefore, i didnt bother learning about them.

ok so your saying with a 9800 pro would be able to run things on medium with a gig of ram but a 68--gs could run everything on high if i had 2gigs? thanks for the reply

I ran BF2 fine on low with a XP3200, 512 MB of Ram and a Saphire 9600 Pro advantage 256 MB video card, now I have a X800XL and 1 GB of Ram and I can only run it on Meduim well now

another note from me 9600 Pro is about $100 here in canada and a 9800 Pro is about $200 so if you are looking at price being an concern I would just get a 9600 Pro and if you plan on upgrading your hole system in the next 2 years then you'll propply want a PCI E card later so I'd save your money and just get a 9600 Pro.

you have a ram bottleneck...

i doubt the 5700 would be good enough to handle the game. the 5950 has issues with it and it's supposed to be better. i think the fx5xxx are only good for rendering 2d graphics

i would not buy a 9600 or lower unless they're like $15 new. Otherwise, they're a waste of money. Grab a 9800pro at a minimum. I have a very similar system to yours with a 9800pro 128MB 256bit, 1gb pc3200 ram, and an xp2500mobile @ 2.2ghz.. it runs bf2 great on medium settings (AA off, AF on low). You'll want a gb of ram minimum, and 2gb for HIGH settings as others have mentioned. The Nvidia 6800GS looks good, dunno about prices. The 9800pro is pretty cheap nowadays, and still a great, great video card for modern games on medium/low settings.

Thanks for all the feed back. I think im gonna go with the 9800 pro and a stick of Corsair value select 512mb of ram so for about $150 + game I can play some BF2 finally
