Will I able to install Athon XP Mobile chip to any socket A board?

Currently I have ASUS A7N8X-X and thought I would get a Barton 2500+. After reading the forum and found the mobile XP barton is even better. (Please correct me if wrong) I wonder if these mobile socket A chip will fit right in on my motherboard without any other adapter, etc.

Would a MSI Neo2 with A64 3000+ give me much better performance compare to current board with XP-M 2400+ in game? I know this is not apple to apple but just curious how much gain I will get for the extra spending.

Can someone help with any advise?

ok so you read the forum but didn't catch on that it will in fact fit in any Socket A board without modification? Double check to make sure your board supports multiplier adjustments in bios and the voltage range is sufficient. Additionally you will need an aftermarket heat sink and fan since the mobile bartons are OEM. I am not sure how it would compare to the 64 setup... I do know that my friend with a 2800+ A64 on an abit AV8 Pro (the VIA socket 754 board) gets about 3100 on PCMark 2004 (he is running PC2100 RAM)... and i get 3727 with the rig in my sig..... so it can be comparable, it all depends on the hardware... I do know that if I had a better graphics card and more RAM I could do better so it is all an issure of how much you want to spend. I do believe that the Neo 2 is the 939 board (correct me if I'm wrong) so if you do opt to spend a little more and get that you may be better off. As far as Socket A goes it is strictly a budget way to go... still competitve.... to a point but it is no A64.... if it is Skt 939 then you will have some additional upgrading options... as of right now Dual core looks like it wil be officially released on skt 939 and it allows for Dual Channel...

It all really hinges on your RAM and your budget though. If you want a decent upgrade and only really have like $100 or so to spend get the Mobile Barton.... if you have some more to spend and already have some PC3200 RAM then get the Neo 2 and either 3000+ or 3200+....

depends on cash and what u would be using ur comp for? using it for the latest games u better buy the a64, since the Athlon XP cant challange it, at least not if u wont overclock ur XP and even then the a64 will be faster. BTW: the only advantage regardiing the XP mobiles is, that they are better for overclocking issues. Thats the whole point in the mobiles, since they using lower core voltage. if u dont want to oc ur cpu then u can buy the "normal" xp barton. and, if ur not interested in having the best gaming rig than u dont need an 64, but dont forget that there will be windows x64 coming in.....q3 maybe. u wont be able to run that on a Athlon XP computer. i personally dont think that its necessary to upgrade to windows x64 as soon as its released but i guess in 2006 this will change. So a cheap upgrade was - if ur not into enthusiasts gaming - to buy the Athlon XP and do a bigger upgrade in 2006.
