With the amount of violence that humans bring upon themselves and with more destructive technologies on their way, I honestly don't see how the human race can actually make it to year 3000.

by inventing some sort of impenetrable personal super shield?

but if you use a knife and slide it in slow enough, the shield won't detect it!

I highly doubt we will last that long. Its in our nature to destoy ourselves and everything around us.

I'd hate to be one of the guys that gets his penis vaporized because he was thrusting too fast though.

of course not... we've just started the movement towards sustainable development and efficiency. given time, everything will eventually be electric powered... Population growth has also slowed in most countries, and most developed countries actually have a declining population. at current rates, the future looks alot brighter than it did 100 years ago. Eventually we'll reach a form of equilibrium where population growth = 0, hydroelectric/wind/solar/renewable/etc. forms of energy would be the norm, and the rest of the world would end its bickering much like Europe after a couple world wars.

I think that we will but it could quite possibly be the stone age again....I would say 50/50

1) too much tension in the world --- Nuclear/Chemical/Biological war in our lifetime itself is quite possible 🙁 - This one seems to be the killer to me
2) Global Warming - Another ice age perhaps ?? - Quite possible looking at the current pace we are going unless we (our generation/next generation) takes some drastic steps soon
3) Big Asteriod/comet actually hitting the Earth - At any given time, there are so many smaller asteriods that enter the Earth's atmosphere and burn up - Who knows when a Big one might hit us - This is highly unlikely but you never know.

We survived the past 2000 years b/c we didnt had sophisticated weapons and were not doing enough damage to the environment. But I think that in the last century itself, we have done more damage than the combined damage from 0AD - 1900AD (I maybe wrong but this is just my opinion).

Even if we did, it would be a different civilization, most probably. pretty sure that the languages would be different. (Hint: Old English vs New English .... not that many of us can properly read and understand old english now and it is only ~400-600 yrs old).

Just praying that if my end is near, hopefully it will not be the one combined with suffering.

I think we will make it to there.. but I definitely think there will be an apocalypse by then. But our technology will be so advanced that we won't depend on the earth anymore, and we'll be living on huge space ships like the USS Enterprise.

Probably, but I think the world will be a much more difficult place to live in the year 3000.

Because you know the future....

He's not allowed to speculate that in the future conditions may be worse?

Is this topic based on the genus "homo" or are we discussing the "modern" current era human?

The Olduvai Theory might be of interest and pertain to the future of the human race, if you get into that sort of stuff.
It basically boils down to world use of oil is more than what is actually left.... and the industrial age is in crisis, blackouts world wide, "great depression" type of environment..

If technology doesn't advance, I could actually see human civilization going into a reverse cycle.. i.e. Stone Age, Iron Age, etc...

i doubt it but 1000 years is plenty of time for some evolution

Think what the human race did in just 100 years, 1900 to 2000. Certainly more impact on human life in that century than any other.

run out of electiricity or a pandemic that wipes out all or most of the people that would take care of the infrastructure and we're back to 1901 in a damn hurry.
1000 is not any significant amount of time for anything resembling evolution. There will not be a new species of hominid in 1000 years, unless we progress to a point technologically that we create one.

Personally I think if there aren't flying cars by then, we might as well scrap the species nad start over.
