I use the onboad nic and sound, will my performance improve while gaming if i install a soundcard and a nic and shut off the onboard items? If so by much of a improvement? I run a asus m3a78-em board PII x3 BE with 4 gb HD 4870 1gb.

Exactly! However depending on the quality of the expansion cards, you could lose performance. Onboard sound and nics are quite good now days

never heard of a killer NIC.... Just wanted to know if the onboard sound and nic would take away from my cpu and if it would be better if i use pci card for that and shutdown the onboard items.

Killer NIC is marketed as a high-end NIC for online gamers. It can supposedly make your online gaming experience better. Costs around $200.

$200 for 10 more fps forget that.... $200 could get me cross fire with another 4870 lol. If it was 70 for 20 fps many be, but a big maybe still.
