will ford ever bring back the excursion?

Will it ever come back ?

🙁

They made a bigger Expedition IIRC...

You can find a great used Excursion, those V10's and diesels last forever...

They should kill two birds with one stone and make a Ford Excursion SHO.

😉

lol

The had LOTS of problems with the Excursions. Ford wanted a bigger and better vehicle than the Suburban, so instead of lengthening the Expedition, they put an SUV body on an F-350 and called it the Excursion.
After the 12 people who were clamoring for such a truck bought theirs, they sat on lots for-freaking-EVER. I haven't looked lately, but as of very late last year, the dealership I used to work for still had quite a few brand new 05's they were trying to basically give away.

Now they have the Expedition XL, which is a direct competitor to the Suburban. Tahoe has been just raping the Expedition in sales lately, so I'm sure Ford is hoping this one will turn the tide. I've driven a few, and other than just feeling very heavy, they are nice.

I remember when the Expeditions came out...they were so hot they sold for OVER sticker. Dealerships wouldn't even let an employee buy one because they were just jumping off the lot at ridiculous prices. That certainly isn't happening with the new XL.

I'm not a Suburban fan, but I like the current model's slab sided nearly debadged look.

Seems like, according to wikipedia, Ford discontinued the Excursion because they needed the production capacity for the Super Duty trucks.

Right-O

Both the Super Duty (P-151) and the Excursion (U-137) were built at the same plant in Louisville (Kentucky Truck). Two full assembly lines with one strictly dedicated to P-151 while the other was dual purpose (60% P-151 / 40% U-137).

In actuality, the bulk of the Excursion production went abroad for use in OPEC countries and elsewhere by international orgs (UN, etc.).

that'd be the times when the ford SUV's roam the roads... now all i see are 4-cylinder altima's... and honda civic's...

I was hoping to get one of the deisel Excursions next go round. Alas. I do like my Yukon XL and am hoping they come out with a diesel version. I only wish there was an easier way to get kids in the third seat without having to fold a seat forward.

That, and they weren't selling.

From what I had heard, the nail in the coffin was the CAFE. Just like the lightning.

I doubt CAFE standards had anything to do with the axing of the Lightning. Annual production was under 5000 units a year. When you are selling over a million truck based vehicles a year, I find it very hard to beleive that a fractional percent of your sales from performance vehicles really makes an impact to your fleet fuel economy.
