To me he has the either you love him or hate him thing going. People are usually not in the middle regarding his humor much in the same way as Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler. I think he's hilarious personally and I always enjoy his movies. You can tell he really has fun doing what he does and he's not expecting to win Oscars.
