Will Fedex refund your shipping if they miss their deadline?

Yesterday I ordered a bunch of stuff from NewEgg that I needed to get before the weekend.. So make sure I got it by Friday I ponied (Is that a word?) up the cash for overnight shipping, since NewEgg doesn't guarantee they will ship same day.. Well, NewEgg DID ship the same day, so Fedex picked it up yesterday and had it scheduled for delivery today.

After I got home from work, I gave Fedex a call and they said there was a sorting problem in Memphis, and that my package would be delivered TOMORROW.. (Friday).. I was kind of taken back by their seemingly lack of caring that they miss-shipped 3 of my packages which I paid quite nicely for overnight shipping on.

So I went online, and as far as I can tell, they say they will refund your shipping costs if they miss their shipping deadlines (3pm for standard overnight I believe).. Has anyone actually gotten them to do this? While I fortunately built in some extra lead time in order to make sure I got the stuff by Friday, I still think they should refund AT LEAST part of my shipping costs.. if not all of it.. Their guarantee seems to state if they miss their deadline "even by 60 seconds" that your shipping will be refunded.. But has anyone actually gotten them to do that? And what shipping costs do they use, their OWN costs, or the cost NewEgg charged me? Since NewEgg charges kind of inflated shipping on many things, I doubt they will give me that full amount back..

Anyways, I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has tried to get a refund.. I'm not trying to be a jerk about it, and I will get my package in time (I hope).. I just believe that if they offer a service and a guarantee, if they don't meet it, I should get refunded.. even if it really did not inconvenience me in any way..

they never refunded me even when I requested it, but I only asked once and did not really pester, so you may want to try that.

Well if the servers weren't so slow I would've responded about 5 minutes ago... I had a similar episode with amazon recently. I paid an extra 5$ for 2 day shipping with UPS to get my stuff here before the weekend, Amazon shipped same day, package was scheduled for delivery on a Thursday. UPS had some trouble, rescheduled for Friday. I emailed Amazon, they told me they would credit me with 4.50$ or something (whatever I paid) for the difference between 2 day shipping and regular ground shipping (which is pretty much what I paid for since it was 3 days). I felt that I got lucky because I didn't mind waiting an extra day, and with regular ground shipping the product most definitely would not have come on Friday, and I would've had to wait until next monday or tuesday at the very least. So in other words, Newegg should get some money back because they didn't deliver on their promise, and in turn newegg should credit you later. I just got an email from amazon this morning restating that they have indeed credited my credit card with 4.50$... although I'm not sure how that's gonan work since I got my sisters CC canceled (spent about 200$ last month, parents got mad... damn u AT 🙂)

<< For a refund request you need to go back to the shipper and request credit thru them. >>

Yup. Newegg has to put in a claim and get credit. Good luck.

My old company had a contract with Airborne Express and in return for getting much lower shipping rates from them as well as having them deliver our packages before 10:00 every day, we had to agree not to request refunds for missed shipping deadlines among other concessions. I wouldn't be surprised if Fedex has a similar policy with Newegg.

Keep in mind shipping for this rather large order was around $110.. So my interest in making them refund part of it has good reason.. 🙂

Yes. I bought an extremely expensive and large purchase from someone that was to be shipped overnight, which costed $100. However, it didn't get to my place on time. Just call their customer service and state the fact that by not completing their shipping date as promised, you are entitled to a refund or reimbursement. I did with my purchase, and got my 100 dollars credited back to me. 🙂

You might just have to talk to the right customer service represenative in order to do this. Just keep trying.

Hagau - Keep in mind NewEgg technically payed for the shipping.. and I paid NewEgg.. so wouldn't I have to go through NewEgg? I doubt Fedex would reimburse me directly when technically NewEgg paid them.. (And probably less than I paid NewEgg)..

My mistake. Didn't read your post correctly. If your case, I think you'd have to do what Zorro said. You'll have to keep pestering them though. Good luck with this.
