My system is in sig... Should I even bother trying EQ2? Or should I go for WoW instead? Or neither and just get a new damn computer already?

Neither game will run too hot on that pc, though WoW will run better. It's also a better game put out by a far better company.

Well your video card is decent, IMO, you should save up 200$ and grab a low-priced athlon xp cpu/mobo with 512mb ddr. With that, WoW would run fine. You can get a 2400+ mobile, NF7, and 512mb of decent ram for 185 at newegg. The proc should hit 2.2 - 2.4 without much effort. You might even be able to play EQ2 on that rig but only at the very lowest settings...

WoW without question. Blizz makes games that run on just about anything and your system should handle it. Just be prepared to maybe going to 800 lines of resolution. Actually 800 Mhz is the minimum. Ouch!

Yeah.. I got the 9700Pro cause I got a good price and I needed a video card with DVI and dual monitor support, and at the same time be a good upgrade over my old 8500LE 128MB.

DMan877, I was looking at upgrade options.. for around $250 CDN (about $200 USD) I could get an AthlonXP 2800+ and 512MB RAM, but I don't really want to spend $250 just to play a game... especially since I planned to upgrade at the end of the summer.

Then again maybe I should just do it. :)

I vote for a new computer. At least a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM.

Odd, I thought you were on the right... live & learn :)

On a serious note though, a fanboy can admit no fault with their company/product of choice. You're an excellent example of this with Sony / EQ2. You even posted those Bloodlines videos, which looked awful (honestly, until I saw them I was considering trying EQ2 because of primetime lag in WoW), thinking they looked good. I, on the other hand, can admit that WoW caters to the casual gamer and that I'd be happier playing a game which didn't - and that the lag is at times awful.

WoW will run like poop on that system. I know, I've tried on a comparable system. =[

What you can do, is wait for a Dell deal, when they put em out uber cheap, and then just mod the heck out of it so you can get a decent gaming machine for pretty cheap.

Are you certain? I run it on a P4-3ghz/1gb/9800Pro system at 1280x960 without any issue.

There are plenty of people with lesser systems, that run WoW just fine.

Eq2 is probably one of the most graphically intensive games when u turn all the freaking settings on.

I tried it and at 1280x1024 resolution i was getting around 10-25 fps~

BUT IT LOOKS SO REAL AND SEXY~

I'm on a similar system as Litch, a p4 b (533fsb) 2.67, gb ram, 9800pro (no dc ram; mb doesn't support it). The game seems cpu-limited on my system, as I get similarly lowish framerates regardless of my eye candy settings & resolution. It's far from unplayable, it's just that I drop down to 10-15 fps in a few areas: Ironforge, Andorhol (in the western plaguelands), parts of STV, and the Scholomance entrance. It might be the low fsb (the p4c's are the 'good' ones) or that I don't have dual channel ram, which the Intels benefit from.

Well I downloaded the 7-day trial of EQ2 (Trial of the Isle). It didn't run THAT badly at 800x600, even with some of the eye candy on (most of it at the "medium" setting). I was actually expecting worse frame rates, but at the same time they weren't high enough to be considered playable in my opinion - just good enough to determine if the game is worth it or not.

Anyways I think I'm going to do a medium upgrade to an Athlon XP 3000+ or similar. It's about time, and it will tide me over until my big upgrade at the end of the summer.

Thanks everyone for your input.

The first time you raid that box is going to explode.
Other than that you might be okay.

I think it might be worth it to get a super fx-55 sli 6800 ultra setup

just to play EQ2 @ 1280x1024 with EVERYTHING on high

IT would look so sweet and be so worth it if you only played EQ2

Well in my mind it is lol... Its just so prettyy

Wow might run, Eq2 will not run very well but would on low settings.

The video card is good though, that isnt a problem, but I wouldnt run it on less than a gig of ram.
