Will ECC and non-ECC memory work together?

I'm thinking put more RAM into my new ordered DELL 400SC
which comes with 512MB DDR( ECC, 400MHz, 2X256MB).
Can I disable ECC error checking?
Can I put another pair of non-ECC RAM in?
I know ECC is more expensive than non-ECC.

if the MB supports ECC then it should work. some boards won't work with ECC even if you don't have it enabled
