I know they are cash cows but will Disney remake these awful movies anytime soon? Or do you think George prevented it in the sale to Disney?

Maybe reboot is the wrong word, but remake them so they are good.

They're too busy making sequels and spin offs to worry about remaking stuff yet.

No. They were bad stories but hit all the necessary plot points to set up 4.

They could probably reuse the scrolling yellow text at the beginning of the movie.

No. They were bad stories but hit all the necessary plot points to set up 4.

They were excellent stories. (Fear mongering, Corruption from within, a free people becoming complicit in the destruction of their own democracy, the so called good guys being more interested in maintaining their power base than the word of law from the Senate, etc.) But were terrible movies. The story from Revenge alone is far better on its own than the story in Force Awakens. (which is otherwise a better movie)

I agree. The stories, or at least the overarching themes, were excellent. What sunk Episodes 1-3:

1. Dialog - Christensen and Portman were terrible but I attribute most of that to the terrible dialog. Their "relationship" single-handedly sunk Episode 2.
2. Jar Jar and ALL Gungans - Jar Jar and the Gungans were terrible and really stupid. You could tell that Lucas saw dollar signs from toy sales to kids and intentionally made the Gungans for that sole purpose. Jar Jar almost single-handedly sunk Episode 1. I said almost because....
3. Neimoidians - These comically bad villains were a major reason Episode 1 was awful, but not quite as bad as...
4. Anakin as a kid - Having Anakin as a 9 year-old kid was a terrible, terrible idea, compounded with the idiocy of having him jump in a ship and destroy the droid control ship. IMO, the Anakin of Episode 2 should've been about the right age for Episode 1. We really didn't need to get the back story of his mom, how he was conceived, or...
5. Midichlorians - Just when I think I'm done listing my gripes with Episode 1, I remember a new one. Midichlorians were probably the dumbest invention in any of the prequels.

Revenge of the Sith was easily the best prequel but still falls short of the original trilogy IMO. The one major story element in RotS that I thought WAS awful was the reason for Anakin's turn. The initial reasons were much more complicated and probably more interesting, but Lucas decided to boil it down to Anakin turning to save Amidala using some stupid force power and didn't emphasize the other reasons for his turn. He could've left out the entire "I need to save Padme!" angle and it would've been much better.

Hmm. Yes. Point taken. Stories decent, themes at least. Bad movies.

My biggest gripe with the first three is that the pacing of Anakin's arc was just awful. Like really awful. 1 - ho hum little boy no big deal. 2 - I love padme and even though we haven't seen or spoken since i was 8 she loves me to instantly for some reason. 3 - first half happy jedi make baby jedi smile time. 3 - second half someone hit the angry kill obi-wan save padme switch! It was like he turned to the dark side in 7 minutes. The other stuff that was supposed to be him turning to the dark side didn't have the appropriate cinematic significance because it was all happening only to him and not to anyone that actually knew what the fuck was going on. If generic jedi #5 had been his buddy for the whole movies and had said "hey, you 're turning to the dark side maybe dont kill the sand people" that would have made the movie waaaay better imo.

Yeah but once they delete all of Hayden Christensen they will end up with 30 minute movies.

You could stick the best actor in Hollywood in Anakin's role and he still would've sucked given the terrible dialog and lame actions Lucas assigned to Anakin.

As demonstrated by Liam Nelson and McGregor.
They are two incredibly taltented actors and still could BARELY plow through the dialog given to them. Hell Portman is an outstanding actress and we all know how her role went...

There's just an entirely different "feel" to the Prequels compared to the OT. They don't FEEL like Star Wars. Amazingly Ep 7 VERY MUCH feels like Star Was movie.

I completely agree with your itemized list too. I just can't even watch 1-3 anymore. They are so so so bad.

Agreed, because Natalie Portman is decent but she could not get work afterwards reportedly.

I thought Liam made his character work. :(

He did... BARELY.

But, the funny thing is that his character is entirely unnecessary to the entire story line and should have never been included. We didn't need to know who "discovered" Anakin. Or who trained Kenobi. Qui Gon was useless.

I keep seeing that too, yet her filmography says otherwise.

That being said, I would have offered her a staring role in any of my...ahem... "home movies" if she wanted :)

Episode 2 was the hardest for me to rewatch I think. Anakins dialog and acting all emo with the love story was so bad. Although jar jar in episode 1 was lame also. Hope they don't remake them just so I never have to see jar jar again.

I will still argue until my dying breath that Ep 2 isn't just the worst SW movie. it is one of the worst movies of all time. It's just HORRIBLE.

They also still have a bunch of back catalogue IP they could go through.

For example, movies based on Grim Fandango or Full Throttle

Agreed. Episodes 1-3 were very intricately woven. They dont get enough credit for this due to the bad casting and corny dialogue.

Are you kidding? She has done quite a few movies since the Star Wars movies including 'Black Swan' which she won an Oscar for her performance in.

She is definitely A list and a fantastic actor.
