Will Crysis be playable at this setting with an HD 5870?

If I play Crysis or Crysis Warhead on all "very high" or "enthusiast" settings, on 1024x768 with no AA, I get 20-35 FPS using an HD 5750 1GB.

What kind of FPS would I be getting if I played those games on those exact same settings with an HD 5870?

You could play Crysis on those settings on a 4850. A 5870 could do it at 1680x1050 at least.

jesus what CPU/RAM are you working with?
this. 35~FPS @ 1024x768 in crysis with a 5750 is pathetic

ed: OP, if you havent built the comp yet, then it isnt a fair comparison. your 5750 looks to be unde rperforming really bad for some reason, my 9800GTX, which is give or take about as fast depending on the game, was able to play it medium/high with no AA @ 1680x1050, avg 35FPS, with a lot of settings tweaking. ATI cards are generally a bit slower in crysis than nvidia cards, but were talking about literally a doubling of resolution here, so i suspect that the rest of your system is just really old and slow, or there's something else going on.

to answer your question specifically, if you read the 5870 reviews for when it came out, on AT here, their test bed is a bit slower than mine (+/- 7-10%) without the CPU overclocked, so if you look at the reviews you will see where one scores. as far as 1024x768, a single 5870 should walk all over that.

I haven't built this computer yet, either a Core i7 930 or Phenom II X4 965 or X6 1090T.

About 6GB DDR3 1600MHz.
so you are going to build a computer to game at 1024x768? really your whole thread is just odd. you need to be clear because you make it sound like you are just adding a 5870 to existing pc that was getting 25-30fps at 1024x768 with a 5750.

The HD 5750's are a bit slow, comparable in performance to the HD 4850. Crysis is about as GPU taxing as it gets at the moment. I'm surprised that simply playing with all "very high and enthusiast" settings doesn't automatically run the GPU at 100% load and then some. Regardless of resolution.

If you want to play Crysis utterly maxed out, 3-way SLI GTX 480 or Two highly clocked HD 5970's will do it. You also need a Core i7 past 4.0 GHz, But you best have the $$$$$.

I don't have $5,500 to spend on a monster PC with a Ci7 980X and EVGA X58 classified right now, so this will have to do.

If anyone on this forum were to get the PC I'm building, the very first thing they would do is overclock it. They don't care about warranties, or very possibly destroying the computer in the process.

I have absolutely ZERO OC'ing experience, so I won't be doing so anytime soon. I guess I'll use my i7 930 @2.8 GHz.

What did you expect from the guy who thinks SSDs don't last longer than 1.5 years.

I still think trolling.

i have just about given up on Crysis. After 3 years and multiple new card generations the game still has the ability to own just about any setup. Yes, I know that Quad Sli GTX 480's can do 2560x1600 4xaa 60-70fps, and I think that is pathetic

My hard drives last about 6-8 months.
Then you have a shitty system, period. What does your crappy setup have to do with how long SSDs last, which is something you have no experience with? Nothing.

Each one of my hard drives lasts less than one year for some reason....
/\From another thread... Went from 'less than a year' down to '6-8 months'. I bet the next time you post about your hard drives, they won't last more than 3 months.

In my newest system I built 2 years ago, it has a HD from an older system for storage only. It's at least 8 years old.

And it's funny you're in here talking about spending possibly over $1000 on a new computer, but you're in the L&R section complaining about how bad your life is and all but refusing to try to use it to better yourself by going to college or much less get a driver's license. You can't even be consistent between the different forum sections. Magic 8 ball says "All signs point to troll"

It's not quite clear to me whether or not you have the internet after posting this kind of question.

In case anantech is the only website you're capeable of visiting; I'd advise you find access to a computer with an internet connection that works outside of this domain as well. Then, find a benchmarked system for one of the most widely used pc gaming benchmarks in the world and maybe figure it out yourself?

You clearly like limiting expensive hardware with a poor performing system so I'd say by all means dive in. Once you're not so embarassed to post your system specs, I MIGHT be willing to advise you further. Otherwise you're just wasting peoples time here.

Crysis don't take advantage of Quad Cores, and I was able to max Crysis and Warhead at my CPU limited resolution of 1280x1024 with 8x FSAA with my current setup. I was able even to activate Edge Detect filtering but was barely playable with no tangible image quality gains. So I think that at an ultra high resolution of 2560x1600, an HD 5870 in CF should be enough. Quad Crossfire or Tri-SLI doesn't scale that well.

That changed around with the HD 4870 which usually performs identical in Crysis as the GTX 260+, and the HD 5870 matches and outperforms slighly the GTX 480 in Crysis.
