Will "crossfire" version cards...

Will "crossfire" version cards work alone if there's no 2nd ATI cards in the machine, or will I have to buy a reguler ATI for single cards?
 
You will need either something to fill the slot, or a switch will be built into the motherboard, but either way, it wil work alone.
