Most certainly the new CPU will come with a new motherboard. It's Intel, so what did you expect?

Core duo is socket 479, it won't work with an LGA775 motherboard. There are desktop boards for core duo, but they are just starting to show up, and not in stock yet.

EDIT: also, there is no gurantee any current motherboard revisions will work with Conroe when it comes out either, although it will theoreticly work with some of the 975x chipset motherboards with a bios update.

I think he expected for someone to post that is actually somewhat knowledge-able about the current situation.

In short, Intel released their 975x Bad Axe v304 (Conroe capable) board about 2 weeks ago to distributers. The problem is most retailers probably want to move the older version out before accepting the newer ones. But yes, they are shipping.

What does the Intel 975X motherboard have to do with Yonah, or SLI in any way?

Core duo doesn't use the same socket as Conroe will, and won't work with your SLI motherboard either. Not sure if an NF4(SLI Intel Edition) chipset will have support for Conroe when it comes out either.

btw is it true that SLI x16 support as high as 975?? gohere:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_28819.html

"NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in programmable graphics processor technologies, today announced the NVIDIA nForce4 SLI XE and NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra media and communications processors (MCPs). Together with the award-winning NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 MCP already available, NVIDIA is now providing its system builder and do-it-yourself (DIY) communities with two, new, lower cost, discrete motherboard solutions for Intel® PC platforms. All three are compatible with all currently available Intel dual-core CPUs, including the new Intel Pentium® Extreme Edition 955."

is it true??

I think there are some 955 chipset boards that support it as well, I know there are some that support the 1066mhz FSB at least.

Theoreticly yes, but probably not going to have the proper VRM.
