I would like to use Celeron G3900 with a Z270 motherboard. The motherboard says it supports "DDR4-4133+(OC) Memory", but the CPU says it only supports DDR4-1866/2133.
Will OC memory be able to work on OC speeds or not? If not, then what is the cheapest Intel 6th Gen CPU I can use? Am I limited to "K" models to utilize the OC RAM speeds?
I'm not ready to buy a high end CPU yet. When I will, I may still want to have a spare CPU that works safely with my motherboard, because:
a) I may eventually buy a future CPU that will work on this motherboard, but only after updating the BIOS (like 100 series boards with 7th Gen CPUs)
b) The high-end 7th+ gen CPU is not supported by my operating system of choice so I may need to install it with an older CPU, then switch to a later, newer one. I'm using Windows 7. Yes, this is retrocomputing. Please don't ask.
