I have a R9700 Pro on the way and would like to if my processor is going to hold it back. I have not overclocked, nor do I intend to. My system:

Athlon XP 1800+ T'bred A
EPoX 8RDA+
512MB Generic PC2100 RAM (1 single-sided, 1 double sided)

Yes. It scale well with higher clock CPU. Faster the CPU the more FPS you get.

Yes, but your 9700 Pro will still perform nicely. And why not simply change your multiplier on you 8RDA+ and get an easy, reliable 2000+ speed ? I bet your T-bred/A will do an easy 2200+ speed, maybe with added voltage, maybe not.

Funny you should mention that. When I first put the system together I had no intentions of overclocking. However, I was kicking around the idea of upping the mulitplier this evening. Now, I'm a TOTAL NOOB when it comes to overclocking. I'm sure I understand the concepts, but I'm hesitant to accept the risks. In doing what you're describing, is it simply a case of upping the multiplier at a stable speed? What other factors should I take into consideration? My CPU is only cooled by the stock HSF - is this sufficient when overclocking with this method?

I suppose I should mention I have an Enermax 350w PSU.

oc slow, a little at a time, and keep an eye on your cpu temps!
get motherboard monitor to help with temps, a better hs/f may not be necessary since the tbreds run coller than say....the palomino ive got, i got a volcano 7+ for mine, and squeexed an extra 400mhz out of it, which is nice
