Will any of the current i850E boards support the new 3.06GHz+ processors?

Just wondering cos I have a P4T533-C and with the 1008C bios it has Hyperthreading support as well as all the proper multiplyers, etc. for the faster chips coming out. But I've heard that Intel set forth a new power specification for the new chips and that some of the older boards might not be able to take the new Hyperthreading P4 chips. Anyone have some info?

Current 850E mobos should have no problems with the faster P4's.

The 850E chipset definitely supports HyperThreading. However, most current boards will require a BIOS upgrade to enable it (your 1008 does). BTW, voltage regulation on Asus, Gigabyte and Intel 850E boards is ample (not sure about any others though).

Well I sure hope thats the case. I really don't feel like going out and buying another board just to take advantage of the future Hyperthreading P4's. I'm not doing much overclocking these days and want to stay with the i850E/PC1066 combo for awhile.

I can't see any reason for you to upgrade to a huperthreading processor. The most bottle-neckish component in today's system is the memory bus. For CPU intense task such as converting dvd's to mpeg4 you might get a decent performance increase but personally it wouldn't ratify throwing away a decent processor.

P.S. How do you like your monitor? I got a 22" Iiayma and haven't found a video card yet that can fully take advantage of it.

I was just wondering how far my board will be able to upgrade. I may want to replace this 2.53 next year with a Hyperthreading 3.2GHz+ P4.
