Its not going to improve FPS, but it will make your maps cached and thus you will usually be the first to enter the game in stuff like CS

If you already have 2x512mb, you will actually get much worse performance because the Athlon 64's memory controller will have a hard time with 4 double sided sticks.

Make sure the memory is matched. Some 754 socket motherboards did not do well with too many sockets filled. Better read the motherboard manual before you decide.

bob, I play a Battlefield Vietnam mod called Point of Existence. Will play Battlefield 2 when it comes out in June.
The E0 stepping of the Athlon 64 will feature an upgraded memory controller, among other things.
The Inq is reporting that one of the biggest updates to the upcoming E0 stepping of the Athlon 64 will be an improved memory controller, which will support double-sided DIMMs in all slots at DDR400 speeds. With the current Athlon 64s, you have to drop to DDR333 to make use of such a configuration.
For those out of the loop, E0 will also bring massive power savings due to the IBM strained silicon process along with SSE3.
