As long as there are people in the Congo who say, "Who is Kafka? Tell me!"
I'm sure the majority of people, especially in Japan, couldn't care less about sick people like Kafka was, but their industry is top-notch. Education has nothing to do with industry, nothing. You can either read crazy books by Kafka or build dams and factories, it would leave you no time for anything else. That's the way life is, man.

Um, that quote was from the movie "Congo". I didn't really mean that they should read Kafka or talk about Kafka or anything. It was just one of the funnier lines from the movie. 😉

The 'problem' with Africa is that their societies were/are structured a lot differently than ours are, and so the introduction of the western way of life there has wreaked havoc. When you have a tribal society which is fairly antagonistic but the technology is somewhat primitive, you don't get widespread death and destruction. Add in the destructive tools of Western society (automatic weapons, tanks, explosives, etc.) and tribal wars become much uglier and more brutal.

Africa has to abandon the tribal structure and learn to work together. Unfortunate, but once the technology genie is out of the bottle, it's hard to put it back in.

course you can say that about asia too. its not much of an excuse.

No you can not. Most of Asia has been organized into state societies longer then anyone can remember. Africa has not advanced past the tribal system, to this day. They try but only as a result of western pressure.

Considering how far they have come since the dawn of mankind It will be amazing to see what esle they will accomplish in our lifetimes, sheerly amazing.
