Will a stun gun make a pit bull release his bite?

It would be really mean to use a stun gun on a dog.

You should try to find out why the dog is biting you and correct that behavior. It is obviously your fault

Yeah I remember when I got bit by an shepherd attack dog when I was but a child. That was my fault also.

Anyhow, the idea is so that I can get the friggin thing off me and seek medical attention. Even if the jaws are locked I suppose I could carry the shellshocked animal into the ER with me, and let them figure it out by using crowbars and such.

We are being sarcastic, because people actually think that the dog would not be at fault.

It is too bad people train their Pit Bulls to be mean. If you don't, Pit Bulls are actually pretty nice dogs (though quite stupid :p).

if I remember correctly electrical shock makes muscles spasum and tense up, if anything I belive a stungun might / would cause the jaw muscles to do the same, and in effect cause the dog to clamp down even harder.

Pepper spay I belive is a more effective means of getting a dog to release his bite although that might make him turn his head and "rip" away violently.

perhaps a gun would be in order, a good shot to the head would make it let go pretty quick.

in lamemans terms, I have no bloody clue what would be an effective means to get a dog to release its oral hold on someone, but I do offer some ideas as to what may be effective.

Ya that reminds me of that scene in the movie Airplane, when the guy goes to Robert Stack's house and is mauled by their 'friendly' dog. People can be really stupid because they think their animals wouldn't harm anyone. "Oh he's just playing!" yeh right

The problem with pit bulls is their locking jaws. I don't know if they would let go even if they were stunned. At least it would quit gnawing on your gonads while you pulled out your Boy Scout pocketknife and sawed its head off.

I believe all is fair when a dog is attacking you or you see one attacking someone else. The law, unfortunately, sees it different. I don't believe you are allowed to use a weapon even to protect yourself. I doubt the police would enforce the law, though.

Pit bulls or any other dog for that matter do not have "locking" jaws. What people are in reality referring to is sheer bite pressure. Its just very strong jaw muscles combined with leverage, there is no 'locking'.

Thank you for the clarification. Next time a pit bull bites my nards I won't have to worry about him letting go after I blow in his ear.

Thank you, its amazing how many people actually believe they have some sort of special locking jaw.

You can kill animals here if you have a good reason. It bites you (even if it has run away, rabies test), is on your property harming something (kid, animal), etc.

One of my dad's friends had his dog attacked and killed by a neighbor's dog on his property. Went inside and grabbed his gun and killed the neighbors dog (was a pit bull vs. his runt dog). Police said it was fine since the dog could have been considered dangerous to others in the neighborhood.

This thread reminded me of one of Carl Hiaasin's books that I read (I think it was "Double Whammy"), where a pit bull had bit this guys arm and he killed it, but still couldn't get it to release it jaws from his arm. If I remember right, he cuts the head off the pitt bull and he goes around with the festering pit bull head on his arm. It was quite hilarious. I guess you probably needed to read the book to appreciate it.:)

Keep in mind that electricity travels to the last in the chain which may very well be you and you could end up stunning yourself hehe
