I have a soyo p4s dragon + motherboard. i am using its onboard sound. I have been experiencing serious lag in battlefield 1942. its almost unplayable when there is lots of sound. i lowered all graphics settings and sound settings....my rig =

1.8 p4
soyo p4s mobo
onboard sound and lan = using both.
512 pc2100
geforce 4 ti4200...fairly decently overclocked.

any ideas?

i dont think it will help that much... it's true that onboard sound takes some power from the CPU, but it won't make that game so lagged.
I suspect another unknown reason behind your problem...

Is it framerate lag or actual latency lag? In a game like BF1942 (or any FPS), latency lag is usually characterized by constant halting/stopping/warping or just stop-start type movement. Obviously, framerate lag is is when everything slows down to a halt. BF1942 shouldn't lag on that machine, it could be the sound card, maybe has to do with the PCI bus being tied up? Try undoing your OC and see if that does anything.
