This is strictly for the OS in my HTPC. I am currently using a plugin for Vista Media Center that caches data from my server and stores it to a folder on the C drive on the HTPC. These are just a bunch of small text files and pictures all less than 1MB in size. So basically when you start up VMC and browser through your movies and their details, it fetches the data from this cache folder.
The HDD does an ok job but at times it does take 2-3 seconds to load some of the background pictures of the movies. I'm assuming the slower random access times of a HDD is causing the delay. From what I've heard about SSDs is that they excel in random access writes and reads so this should eliminate that delay, right? It would be silly to go with an SSD for that sole reason but I'm also hoping it would help speed up the loading of VMC and make the UI much snappier and more pleasant to use.
