Question Will a Ryzen 5 be overkill for Nvidia 1050 TI?

I have a super old system with ASUS P5Q Pro Motherboard and Q9650 CPU. I do want to try out some of the new gen games like CyberPunk and Homeworld but usually my staple of XCOM like turn based games. Given that my graphics card is a Nvidia 1050 Ti will upgrading to a Ryzen 5600 be worth it or will the graphics card be a bottleneck? Also my power supply is
PC Power and Cooling S75QB 750 W. Will I have to change my power supply too?

It will be a bottleneck, but I think it's still worth doing. You'll get definite improvement over your old system, especially if you turn the graphics settings down, and you can always upgrade the graphics card in the future.

Games like Cyberpunk are CPU intensive. The 5600 with a $80-$100 board and $45-$50 16GB kit of 3600MT/s ram makes a great low budget platform capable of playing everything smoothly. 2077 has seen multiple big updates, which will allow the 1050ti to provide a good experience using FSR.

Definitely worth the upgrade. If you are in the U.S. Amazon has the best price currently. Black Friday & Cyber Monday are almost here, so hopefully we see it going for under $120 again including the Uncharted games bundle.

You would see a massive improvement in games that were limited by your CPU. CP2077 should run ok with lowered graphics settings. I don't think you need to change your PSU.

That should let you balance out your system to an extent.

With a huge native 4K display, 1080 low with FSR quality isn't going to look amazing in 2077. But it will let you play with over 30fps, which is where I would lock it for the best experience.

The NVIDIA/RT tax is insane. If you want to use RT though that would be the way to go. With the further launch of NVIDIA/AMD GPU's later this year and early next year though you might be kicking yourself if you bought one today. I very much expect prices to be much better in 3-6 months.

Getting a whole new system build would be wise at this point. The 5600 is a great upgrade, but the 1050Ti is going to be a huge bottleneck, especially for new games like Cyberpunk 2077 at 4k.

That's a fact. GTX 1070s and 1660 variants are going really cheap now. That'd be a big performance jump if money is tight.

FSR is keeping old cards from becoming e-waste though. Kryzzp has the 1050ti running 2077 at 1440 low FSR 2.0 performance and getting over 30fps. I think that is how I would play on a native 4K display.

Why would that be the case? What is going to happen that would make Ampere cheaper than it currently is?

It is criminally stupid to buy a 3050/3060 over an RX 6600. Higher end cards get a bit closer but AMD still wins. Additionally we will see more mainstream AMD and NVIDIA cards in the next few months which should drop prices on the current gen even further.

Of course, if this holds up, I will likely be wrong. NVIDIA will just overprice the hell out of all 4000 series cards and the market will continue to treat AMD GPU's as if they had AIDS.

With the RX 6800, you could do some light 4K gaming with some graphical settings lowered in the latest games. Plus, the extra 4 GB VRAM is nice to have for future needs. I personally like the RX 6800.
