Will a pcmcia soundcard work with internal laptop speakers?

Sounds like a rather dumb question but one never knows until they ask.

Not that I've ever seen. Most PCMCIA soundcards are separate devices with their own outputs - there would physically be no way to connect the internal speakers to an external soundcard.

You could try running the output from the PCMCIA card to the mic in jack, but then you'd kind of be defeating the purpose - the output signal would be processed back into digital by the onboard sound. Not a good solution if the onboard sound is broken or has bad audio quality.

I'll second what Raduque said, and add this:

Possibly you're just looking for "some better sound out of this laptop" than what you have now. Have you tried headphones? Even cheap $10 earbuds sound 10x better than most laptop's built-in "speakers" that I've ever heard.

The sound is typically a desktop replacement's user's biggest complaint. You spent $2K+ on a laptop with a fast multi-core processor, discrete GPU and high-resolution screen and it plays games great but it sounds like crap. The built in 1/2" diameter speakers are to blame and nothing can make them sound better. Headphones are the answer.

If I'm totally off-base, then sorry. Carry on. Good luck. :)

Agree with MichaelD. Also, a good set of portable external speakers will produce better sound from the laptop's internal audio system.
