Will a GTX 460 be bottlenecked by a Core2 E8400?

Yes, take a look at this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2292179

I upgraded my old e8400 system from an 8800gt to a GTX460. Performance certainly improved, by about 50% in fact. But the 460 is theoretically 100% faster, so you're losing a lot of performance. Do you already have the card or are you buying it used? I guess if you pick it up cheap enough, it's still not a bad decision, but if buying new, you'd be much better off with something like a 7750, or better yet a used 5770, unless you got in on the above-mentioned deal.

Just got an email where newegg has A refurbished model EVGA 460 for only $69 with coupon code. Thought about grabbing it to either have a back up, or to try hybird physx with an amd card. Wasn't sure, but thought that was a good deal for 460

I'm currently running a Core2 E8400 @ 3.0ghz. Will the GTX 460 be bottlenecked by this cpu?

Thanks!

What res are you running?

I'm sure there will be certain situations where you run into bottlenecks.

Some games it will be fine others not so much. GTA 4 comes to mind

Ok Leyawin, what is the SE model mean? sorry Havent' been up on Nvida products in a few years and could yous some education 🙂

Thanks for the replies. My buddy lent me the card when he upgraded his rig -- just wondering how much good it would do me, as I'm debating upgrading now or waiting a few months for the new intel CPU's to launch
