will a DVD fit in a slim CD jewel case?

Staples has a 100-pack of multicolored Staples-brand slim CD cases for like $13...I'm wondering if those will fit DVDr discs. Anyone know? I don't have one to test it out.

Funny.

And just so this post, nay thread, is not a total loss here's a fun fact: the 12cm disc was decided upon because it allowed two to occupy the same width of one record on store shelves, thus easing the adoption and transition.

dont listen to these idiots, yes they are thicker. you need to find DVD-R or +R jewel cases.

get the black ones, they are a little roomier inside than the color ones. :)

If you put a racing sticker on the jewel case, it'll make 4x DVD media as fast as 8x!!1!!! ;)

At least you finally got to upgrade something. Cheaper than a 3.4C or a Raptor too.

Um, yeah they do. But I've read that it isn't a good idea because that little center area puts different pressure on the discs than dvd cases. That could shorten your movie/dvd lifespan. I don't know for sure, personally, but it's something to look into.

Yes they do fit, but you do want to make sure that you press down on the center gripper in the right way to be sure the disk is totally freed up before lifting it out. Bending stresses WILL shorten the life of a DVD much more than a CD. Though I read where they are coming to the conclusion that that is one of the reasons that burned CDs aren't lasting as long as they should. So one should take simiar care to release his CDs from the hub gripper before lifting out to avoid bending.

 But you knew that already.

Sorry Kaido that you asked an innocent question and got this. If you know the answer, the question does seem silly. I use them for the cheaper projects. I think the blue ones are the best ;)

Now, just to join in on the fun.

The correct way to insert a DVD into a thin CD case is by placing it on a four-legged tripod. I also find that prop wash is the best thing to clean a dirty DVD with.

Good advice :) I do feel that anyone who isn't properly caring, storing, and handling their media deserves the problems that accompany said behavior. This is a serious "case" of use some common sense. Yeah it was a pun, and yeah I know the old joke about "if it was common everyone would have it" ;)

I haven't used prop wash since I've left the AF. Ah, the memories. :)

Hmm? They're made out of exactly the same polycarbonate substrate material.

Most "CD rot" on burned discs starts near the outside, not the inside, because they were improperly mfg'd, and not completely airtight.

I think that the biggest issue is dust getting on the discs, actually, and the affect of scratches being greater than with CD, due to the higher surface data-densities. In that respect, full-size jewel cases seem to protect slightly better, as there is less of a chance of the bottom side of the disc making contact with the back of the jewel case, and scratching because there was some dust in-between.
