Will a 800Mhz Duron do some justice to a 64 meg ATI Radeon?

Would you guys say that a 800 Duron would be a decent match-up to a ATI 64meg Radeon? I can get a retail 800 Duron for $53 and that's hard to pass up. The only other thing I might be able to afford is a t-bird in the $90-$100 range. My eyes are pretty glued to that $53 Retail 800mhz Duron though.

i've been doing radeon research lately, and from what i've read, you will get good performance from the radeon/800 mHz duron combo. obviously, you will get better performance from a faster processor, but i would be pretty happy with the 800 mHz duron with the radeon(look at my rig, and you'll know what i mean).

I knew I was planning to go cheap with a processor but I think I went just a little too overboard with a video card to match up with it. I did get a decent deal on the video card though! $155 for a 64meg Radeon vivo SE. I'm planning on keeping the video card for a very long time.

I have a mobo that isn't the best for overclocking, when it comes to voltage boost. I have the gigabyte 7zx.

edipisreks: your not alone man 🙁. I have a POS HP cel 500. and i just shoved in some more ram, new hd and the same video card are you.
Sux eh. When I bought my computer I didn't have any knowledge about it, but now after 2 years ... well you get it. lol

yasha. y don't you get an iwill kk266 and pair it up with that duron and radeon.

If it can change multipliers then you can just fill in all the L7's.that would give you 1.85 volts.

If your board doesnt do multipliers then i guess OC will only be limited to FSB oc. 🙁

It does multipliers like most boards but not the voltage part. I originally had a Abit board but had all kind of compatibilty issues with it and returned it for this Gigabyte. I'll give Gigabyte credit for making one of the most stable kt133 boards.

A 1ghz 266FSB Thunderbird is only $83...they should hit 1.3ghz or higher...🙂

Is that the one at newegg? I would have to buy a seperate fan/sink too. With processors I usually like to stick to retail for 2 reasons.
The first being that it won't get a static bath like a oem could. The second reason is the warranty. I've seen oem processors come with store stickers on the chip. I'm sure when they pack hundreds of packages a day, they forget to ground their selves. I guess it's just my opinion though 🙂

If it does multipliers then all you need is to unlock the chip & max the votage to 1.85 (L7 bridges) and you're set.

Yes, that system will do just fine for gaming. Of course you can always overclock the Duron if you wish.

check out my OC😀. That duron wont be limiting framerates if thats your concern. Your gonna be playing games @1024x768x32 or higher right? If yes, then dont sweat it....

I would not overclock with a retail heatsink/fan. Isnt that going to kinda push it? I doubt he's using arctic silver on his retail one either.
