Will a 6800nu be limited by my rig?

Have a p4b 2.67, if you're not familiar with the 'b' it means it's a 133mhz bus (533mhz fsb) chip, not the usual 200/800 you see with the more popular 'c' chip. I have a gb of pc2700 ram, but my motherboard doesn't support dual-channel. Also, my cpu absolutely refuses to overclock, not even to 2.8 mhz. I'm trying to decide between a 9800pro and a 6800nu.

No help to you, but I love the sig. I OC everything I touch. If Ma had a puter, I'd OC it.

I don't see much if any bottleneck on the machine, but I am an AMD lifer. I haven't had a Pentium since my Pentium 3 600 mhz.

Gurck,

I'm running a P4 3.06 on a i845 (533 FSB) with a 6800NU and Doom 3 plays very well. I'd say get the 6800U.

Yeah, I'm sure the 6800nu would be kickass, but I'm wondering if I'd see the full benefits of it over the 9800, or if much of that performance increase would be lost due to my cpu / chipset bottlenecking the system. I can't even overclock my system to help make up for it if that's the case. I'm eyeing the MSI retail 128/256 9800pro, which supposedly has the XT core, a nice heatsink, and definitely has nice bundled games, it's about $195 shipped. I'd certainly be willing to OC the card, though maybe not flash to XT (flashing stuff makes me nervous 😛)

You will see benefits over the 9800.
my friend has a dual MP2400 system and the CPU only runs at 2.0GHz, and his 6800GT rips my 9800P a new arsehole in Doom3 (I am now running an Athlon64 3200+ too)

Go for the 6800 card.. DEFINITE improvement.

too bad doom3 doesn't use both of those MPs. so that's almost 1000mhz in AMD terms that you have on him and still get rocked. you were talking about a GT though. but yeah, get the 6800NU. the 6800s are the best bang for your buck right now.

i hope ati releases an x800 gt for $400 and lowers the x800 pro to $300. that'd be sweet! :-D
