Will a 480W be too much power?

Yes, another power supply question, sorry. Now I know you can't ever have too much power, but I'm debating between an Antec 350 and 480 for my new system. So I guess my real question is, is 350W enough for this system and will 480 be overkill?

- 2.8c slightly overclocked
- two 512mb pc3200 sticks
- IS7 motherboard
- ATI 8500 All-in-wonder
- 3 hard drives (typically only 1 used often)
- 2 optical drives (rarely used)
- probably about 3-4 fans and one or two LED lights

Would getting 480W be way too much for this setup that I'll never use the extra 180W? Reason why it's 480 or 350 is because I want either of the two blue led PSs that Antec has. And I don't need the link to that PS calculator cause its waaaay off.

Thanks :)

Well, at least you can keep your 480 PSU with next upgrade. I would say go for 480 if the price diff isn't that much. then you can safely adds more and more fans, peripherals, etc.

I think he means both are Antec. How about something in the middle? That'll let you add more parts later on with headroom still left over.

I have a Tbird 1.4, 2 sticks of 128, vid card, 6 HDs, sound card, network card, vid capture card, pci raid controller card, 4 case fans, cpu fan, 2 opticals and a floppy running on 400W and I've never had a problem. 350 is more than enough for you.

480-350=130 not 180.

i would go with the 480 for the reasons that DoubleUhat posted.

sometimes..something are just not too much no matter how much..eg money.

ur case.i think u should get a 480 or 460..i paves way for smooth future upgrades w/o running into a deadwall of lack of power

me example..got a enernmax 350W for my AIW 9700..now changed the case..the PSU do not have enough juice to power the high intensity LED lol

Awesome, thanks for the advice. Well now I just have to think about how much I'll upgrade and if it's worth spending the money now, or later. This nexr PC I have will last me a couple years, and don't power supplies get sketchy after a few years anyways? I think I'll probably go with the 350, but I'll definately consider the 480.

And for those curious, it's a difference of $50 for the TrueBlue350 or $100 for the True480 PS. Both are quality PSs, so the quality over quantity argument is null. So I guess it just comes down to whether I plan to use it for upgrades or not, years down the road. Hrmmm.....
