Will a 35W mobile Athlon XP 2400+ work on a Biostar M7NCG 400?

Is there a particular revision of the Biostar M7NCG I would need to seek out or is there a particularly version that is particularly desireable.

I would be putting the CPU / mobo in an Antec Aria and am seeking as low a heat production / noise combo as possible. I would not need to "overclock" past 3200+ at the most.

It should work, you'll just have to manually set the voltages, multiplier, and FSB. I have read that you should avoid revision 7.1 of the M7NCG 400 as Biostar took out all overclocking options in that rev. I have a mobile 2600+ working great in a M7NCG 400 rev 7.2 in an Aria case.

How is stability and reliability of the M7NCG?

I would be building a multimedia computer and would be more concerned with stability and compatability with a multitude of hardware and software?

Also, I am starting to research the 35W mobile Athlons. Any major differences between the 2200 and 2400 speed rated 35W mobile Athlons? Are they all unlocked and based on the "barton" core. I would have no need for "overclocking" past ~ 3200 speeds.

mshan, how did that work out for you? I'm eyeballing the M7NCG400 as well. Was there a vcore adjustment in the bios?
I just downloaded the online Bios Users Guide and although they display a CPU Ratio option I see nothing about vcore.

Right now I've decided on using this board with a mobile Barton, probably the cheapest one out and use the overclock to best advantage.

I think you need either a revision 1.0 or revision 7.2 motherboard. Those are the only two revisions that had all of the overclocking options available in BIOS.

If the BIOS has no multiplier adjustments for Mobiles you'll probably be stuck at 6x.

Besides the revisions missing overclocking features, the rev.1 board I had could not go past 12.5 multiplier so if you had a CPU above it, you couldn't go below it and if you had a CPU below it (all mobiles) you can't go above it. Also, the board doesn't "officially" support 400MHz FSB, so you may have to raise chipset voltage.

One of my machines is currently running a mobile 2600+ at 12x200 on a Chaintech 7NIL1 board using the "wire trick." I no longer have the Biostar board because a buddy wanted it badly enough.
