How cool would it be if this concept really took off and there was eventually a free online school complete with a diploma and accreditation? Maybe they'd request a donation of like $100 for a four-year degree just to offset the costs of server space, printing the diploma, mailing it, etc. The main thing they're missing that they don't already have is some kind of testing system.

I think the concept is really cool... free education done at your own pace. My concern is that there isn't any level of accountability. How are you to know that the person receiving the degree did any of the work, or took the exams? Also, without paid educators there can't be any level of english writing competency as measured by compositions. I think the idea could work very well for some degrees, but not every degree could or should be granted in this manor.

You can do qualifications via snail mail so why not? I don't think a degree earned that way can be considered as good as a normal one though - the knowlege gained from just discussing a concept with others doing the same degree is invaluable.
