I've been sitting here for five minutes trying to figure out why you would post something so profoundly stupid. It seems that for some reason you think I'm diminishing Jerry Rice's accomplishments. I'm not. I said it would be more interesting to see a list of his more meaningful records.

Jerry Rice remains a stud.


But I'm saddened that Torry Holt was well on pace to break all of those records that mattered, until finally being hobbled by seemingly minor injuries, but more importantly--a shithole franchise. 🙁

That's the thing with these career records...its all about longetivity and the ability to do it for years without injuries stopping you. Guys like Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Brett Favre got where they are in the record books by being very good for a long time and avoiding injury. Which, really, is part toughness, and part just luck.

I have oftened said Rice or Lawrence Taylor are the two greatest players ever to step foot on a football field. Who is the better of the two? I call them 1A and 1B, order not really important. Another thing people don't often talk about with Rice is, how good of a down the field blocker he was. He was some kind of special special player. But that LT, total chaos, on and off the field 🙂.

Not taking anything away from Rice, who was one of the greatest players ever, but come on. Mugs is right - this list has dozens and dozens of completely meaningless "records". Records by month? Records by opponent?

Touchdown receptions in a 4 game span...

And he gets another "record" for each number up to 89?

His meaningful achievements are impressive enough without the padding.

Athletes are known for not being the smartest and being pretty susceptible to placebo. There's tons of great athletes that took part in BS stuff (for instance there's entire teams that buy magnetic bracelets and other crap like that). Chances are, he did it because the chiro he went to was a better physical therapist than say the team had at the time. That or could be he liked getting some happy endings and a chiro looks less suspicious than a massage parlor.

You can find those anywhere. It's okay to have a silly list too. It's not like the existence of the silly list instantly deletes all other lists, and your definition of what's interesting is not the only one on the internet. I think the sheer volume of records he set says as much about his impact on the game as how many touchdowns he caught in 1987.
