Interesting. The blackout is done using javascript, so you can disable javascript and browser normally (they did this intentionally).

Nice catch.

I use NoScript and it prevented it from being blacked out so was wondering what I was missing.

One would think they would actually do something decent by leaving it alone and simply making the home page with a bunch of links about it but instead they try screwing with people like this.

Craigslist blacked out too

STOP PIPA (Senate 968) & SOPA (HR 3261)

Imagine a world without craigslist, Wikipedia, Google, [your favorite sites here]...

News Corp, RIAA, MPAA, Nike, Sony, Comcast, VISA & others want to make that world your reality.

Contaminated fish and micro chips
Huge supertankers on Arabian trips
Oily propaganda from the leader's lips
All about the future
There's people over here, people over there
Everybody's looking for a little more air
Crossing all the borders just to take their share
Planning for the future

[Refrain:]
And we're so abused, and we're so confused
It's easy to believe that someone's gonna light the fuse
Can't happen here, can't happen here
All that you fear they're telling you, can't happen here

Supersonic planes for a holiday boom
Rio de Janeiro in an afternoon
People out of work but there's people on the moon
Looking for the future
Concrete racetracks nationwide
Juggernauts carving up the countryside
Cars by the million on a one way ride
Using up the future

[Refrain]

Satellites sprying for the CIA
The KGB and the man in grey
Wonder if I'm gonna see another day
Somewhere in the future
We got everything we need for a peaceful time
Take what you want but you can't take mine
Everybody's living on the Siegfried Line
Worried about the future

And we're so abused, and we're so confused
It's so easy to believe someone's gonna light it
Easy to believe someone's gonna light the fuse
Can't happen here, can't happen here
All that you fear they're telling you, can't
Happen here, can it?

Good for them, too bad Google couldn't go all the way. However, between them millions upon millions just today will see what they are saying.

Heck I've already used wiki twice today. It's not really blacked out and they know it. Go to a page and as soon as it's done loading immediately hit ESC. At least in Chrome that works, and you can use it as normal.

I think whats gonna happen is loads of regular Americans will find they can get by just fine without the internet for one day, and wont protest SOPA.

I had one of those rows with my wife. You know the kind I mean.
The type of argument that leaves you editing Wikipedia to prove your point.

Perhaps it will expose Wiki as a sub-par source of info and people will spend 39.99 on a DVD encyclopedia or yearly membership to site that actually takes the job seriously.
Either that or Wiki could run ads and pay for professionals. Doesnt matter to me how it gets done.

Good to see. Sucks Google just blacked out their logo, but they did it for business reasons (it would drive people to other search engines, some of whom may not come back).
