Wikipedia is blacked out

Truth, I just tried to research something and got the black page of wikideath.

What the fuck!!! It's only 9PM here on the west coast!

Interesting. The blackout is done using javascript, so you can disable javascript and browser normally (they did this intentionally).

To protect the smart people. I should call my rep and senators to ask them why my wikipedia is down. lol

Whether or not you're for or against the legislation... this is pretty awesome. A bunch of people around the world getting together to fight something.

Going to www.wikipedia.com brings up the normal page. Fail. (US East Coast). Somehow I knew these sites wouldn't go through with it. Google didn't and neither has Wikipedia.

Search for something

FWIW, there are a number of other sites that are down for Wednesday as well. It isn't enough to shut down the web, but there is certainly enough down that a large chunk of the population will notice.

Edit: Added my own site...there's about 6k pissed off people.

its on protest of sopa 🙂 so awesome...they wanna stop piracy..either lower prices/make stuff worth the price...or get smarter so we can't pirate your shit...don't tie up the court systems with ridiculous lawsuits...if a a law can't be properly enforced...it shouldn't be a law...the supreme court reasoning behind ending prohibition...could also be applied to prohibition of other substances...

They're only blacking out the English page. www.wikipedia.com is the global landing page and you don't hit the English Wikipedia until you do a search.

Yes, you can try to determine country by IP address, but its not as accurate of a method as you might think.

Yup. I can get to article pages, too. I'd post a screen shot but I'm fairly lazy.

Disable Javascript or have NoScript in FF like I do and you don't even notice until you temporarily allow scripts to see the blackout.
