just by seeing the pn tards here supporting it makes me happy i dont donate or use it. it proves my theory

Typical SandEagle half-ass troll attempt.

Salaries, wages,
recruiting and other hiring

costs = 13+ million

95 employees. On average they cost about $140k per year? That number is up over $4 million from last year. Seems kinda high for a company that wants to operate solely by donation. They want 1.6 million for travel

That is pretty odd.

With such a small team managing the site, it doesn't seem unreasonable since they have to hire talented people to manage such a high traffic site.

Once you factor unemployment insurance, healthcare, retirement plans, etc., you end up with a much lower avg salary, probably in the 90k - 100k range.

They're hiring quite a bit so the costs are going up. The hiring process for skilled people is more expensive than most people realize.

this.

I manage budgets for several departments of a Fortune 250 company. Full cost of full-time employee averages about 150% of the annual salary. Since wiki's staff is comprised of mostly IT personnel, I suspect, average labor costs of 140K is easily within range.

It probably sounds ridiculous to him because, like 99% of ATOT posters, he doesn't have a clue how the real world functions, especially the business world.

I don't understand the surprise. In fact, I think they are doing a damn good job with $28M/year.

It was only a couple of years ago that wikipedia's annual budget was a couple million with a staff under 10. Times have changed it seems.

So has traffic and content volume.

I wish they'd throw some advertising on and be done with it.

Could be over in an hour. Jimmy had a petition up if every unique visitor in that hour gave $5 their budget problems would be over in an hour so come on guys. Give $5 at least.

They have an explicit policy of having zero advertisements, excluding the super-creepy pictures of Jimbo Wales.

Yup. I'm sure it would work wonders for wikipedia's perceived integrity if they are backed by sponsors.

$30 a year would be a good donation, and would give them a shit ton of money if only a small percentage donated. $1 a month for Wikipedia access is one of the greatest bargains on the planet.

I wonder how much wikipedia could bring in through online advertising. Probably hundreds of millions with the traffic they bring in. I would rather see a 728x ad across the top instead of Jimmy Wales and huge please donate banner on the top of every page.

I wish they'd throw some advertising on and be done with it.

Neither of you are properly placing a value on the worth of not having advertising. Integrity as mentioned above is one.
