Wii Wireless question

I finally scored a Wii ... which is something of a coup where I live. I haven't seen ANY within 300 miles of where I live since launch, and just managed to stumble across one 🙂 Excellent.

I don't have a wireless router, but plan on getting one. Does the Wii will automatically recognize it? Is this correct? I can't wait to get it set up properly.

Thanks.

Yes it should pick it up right away, i had my nephew bring his over, my router picked it up right away.

IIRC, it's best to use channel 1 or channel 11 (or 12?) (set that up on your router)

Other than that, you just tell it to look for wireless networks and pick the one you connect to (and set up whatever security you use, if any)

yes it will automatically detect it... i had MAC Address filtering turn on on my wireless but the Wii told me the mac address so i could configure my router. I imagine if you use encryption it'll take a little configuration as well...

It's just another wireless client. easy-peezy.

Go get a buffalo router (they're cheap), setup WPA2-PSK, put key in wii and you're all set. The weather channel is really neat.

I'll be picking up the router on my way home tonight so I can check out the online features ...

Why I picked up the Wii just as golf season begins around here is beyond me, but I'm sure I'll manage to find the time 😛

I second the Buffalo wireless router. The WHR-G54S is a fantastic model. The Linksys WRT54G/GS series are also excellent.

That just happens to be on the shopping list this weekend ... 😀

Any other game recommendations for me? I'm thinking the newest Zelda game might be a buy as well ...

It was a pain in the ass getting my wii to work on my old linksys router, I had to put it on channel 1 and turn off all security for it to connact at all and it was iffy after that. When I moved and tried on my new router with WPA, i gave up after it failed to connect the first few times. Maybe my antanae is messed up, who knows.

I had to adjust my encryption to one recognized by the Wii, and yes it does take a bit more typing 😉

Other than that pretty much autoconnect.

Virtual Console. You buy point cards+classic controller, then use points to buy classic games that you play with the classic controller. I'll stick to my mame...

Fixed, and now you can see why I don't use the VC heh.
