But I see your point. They're comparable in price once you add a bunch of controllers (which you'll probably eventually do anyway). The Wii benefits more from having four controllers... the 360 and PS3 are fine with just two because there aren't a ton of 4-player games, but it's nice to have four anyway.

And the Wii is only $199 as of this weekend or next week some time. I forget the actual date.

Look at all the wii reviews at ign.com & gamespot.com

Find at least 5 games you want to own and 5 coming out soon that you want.

If you can, then get a Wii. If you can't then try this on another console.....

Simple as that.

On the Wii you can include GameCube, Wiiware & Virtual Console / Emulator games too.

For PS3, you have PS1 & 2.

For 360 you have Xbox and Xbox Live Arcade.

New PS3's no longer have PS2 backwards compatibility. I don't know about PS1 compatibility. Also, I thought that 360 backwards compatibility was game-dependent?

As far as I know, all Gamecube games work on the Wii with no problems.

I have a Wii and plan on keeping it around.

I have two boys, 6 and 2.5 years old. 2.5 year old can't really play yet, but my 6 year old son likes to play it.

Wife doesn't really play games. I'm the main game player in the house, but I'm raising my boys to be my gaming buddies :).

I have around 20 games for the Wii. Mostly Nintendo 1st party stuff, but there are a few 3rd party gems thrown in for good measure (e.g. Boom Blox, Tiger Woods 10, House of the Dead Overkill).

Overall, are you happy you bought it?
Yes, I am happy with the quality of the system and games available. However, my PS3 and 360 see much more usage and my 6 year old likes to play them both more than the Wii. Also, the PS3 and 360 have many more value added multi-media features that make them a better overall value IMO. Motion controllers are coming out for both of these systems in the next year or two. If I had to pick one system out of the 3 today, it would probably be my PS3.

All that said, the Wii is the most unique of all my systems in terms of games and gameplay. Nintendo made great use of the new controllers to be sure. There is no other legal place to download all the VC games available on WiiWare as well.

All PS3s have PS1 compatibility. The 360 is compatible with a lot of original Xbox games, but not all?MS has a list on their site of which ones are compatible. And yes, all GameCube games are compatible with the Wii (seeing as how the Wii uses basically the same hardware as the GameCube).

Do you have a Wii or did you and you got rid of it?

Yes we have a Wii, got it as an Xmas gift from my parents 2 years ago.

Do you have young kids and do/did they use it and like it?

We have a 7 and 3 year old. 7 year old plays it at least once a week, 3 year old enjoys trying to play when his brother plays.

How about older kids and/or adults?

The non-gamers of my family will play Wii Sports during family gatherings, and thats about it. I play it rarely, if ever.

Did/do you have a variety of games or just a couple or just the one it came with?

Wii Sports
Wii Play
Mario Kart Wii
Super Mario Galaxy
Warioware
Mario Party 8
4 or 5 virtual console games

Overall, are you happy you bought it?

I would sell it if it wasn't for the kids. The Xbox 360 and PC get 99.9% of my gaming time and dollars.

I got a Wii for my wife yesterday, don't think I'll give it much action. She likes it so far, she actually had a blast playing the baseball/tennis/bowling Wii Sports game, and she isn't even a sports fan. Going to get Wii Fit for her soon, too. That was the main thing she wanted it for.

I think the most play it'll get from me is the Virtual Console, some really classic titles on there. Nothing I couldn't get for an emulator, but it'll be nice to sit on the couch and play Secret of Mana over again. Now if they would add Earthbound.... :D

I think for a FAMILY console, its great, but if it was just for me, I'd never buy one.

Friend of mine is a major gamer and he recommend the Gold's Gym fitness program over Wii Fit and the EA one. The Wii Fit is the only one that gets real marketing time so most people (including me) don't even know about the others.

If you are interested in the fitness aspect, GI had a fitness guru guy do a review not too long ago.

Fortunately, Game Informer Magazine compared the current Wii fitness games side by side, evaluating their strengths and weaknesses. Professional fitness trainer, Keith Nelson did the reviews.

The five games that were reviewed are: Wii Fit, My Fitness Coach, Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009, EA Active and Gold's Gym Cardio Workout
. Out of these games, Jillian Michaels' was the worse, scoring only 1 out of 5.

There were two fitness games that were tied for the best score, 4.5 out of 5. These were EA Active and Gold's Gym. EA Active looks like the clear winner for me, simply because it contains a variety of exercises and activities whereas Gold's Gym is mostly boxing (although if you love boxing, you'll get a professional workout. EA also makes it harder to cheat, according to the Game Informer review.

Wii Fit came in at 2.5 out of 5, and My Fitness Coach was rated at 2 out of 5.
