Wii Sensor Bar mod

Anybody own an Wii sensor bar enhancer like this?
http://www.engadget.com/2007/1...cial-wii-in-your-life/

I am not looking for a wireless sensor to replace my wired one, just wanted to get one or two to enhance the sensor since the Wii in a large room isn't always responsive at certain angles. Shipping for this one is like $20 for 2 so I didn't think it was worth getting. I heard IR emitters do the same job, but i'm not too sure what would be a good type to get.

The sensor bar really isnt a sensor bar. It emits two points of invisible light that the wii remote picks up. This can be mimicked placing a pair of candles (yes, normal candles) about the same distance apart the sensor bar's points are and unplugging your wired sensor bar.

I highly doubt that any product claiming to... improve this functionality at obscure angles will work. For best results, just play in front of your TV instead of off to the side.

Hack one up from radioshack parts for about the same price but no shipping. You can make 2 separate IR units and put them how far apart you want, so if you have a huge TV you can put them further apart and it should work a bit better.

I heard about the candle idea as well, but I am somewhat paranoid putting candles near my tv with my current setup. Only instance I need a better signal is when I am playing with 3 friends and people want to spread out with games that involve higher physical involvement. As a result, sometimes the side players will get weaker sensitivity.

I was thinking of doing this, but wanted to make sure if anybody has experience buying cheaper 3rd party bars that work as well for convenience and better presentation purposes.

Creating separate sensor bars for each side of the TV sounds pretty interesting, I wouldn't mind trying that.
I know that my wireless sensor bar seems much stronger than the regular one but that could be a result of me fiddling with the sensitivity after I got it as well.

i have the nyko wireless bar and man, that thing is like night/day w/the normal one. it made a huge difference.

i gotit cause the nintendo one couldn't even pick up my wiimote when i sat back in my couch thats like 12 feet from the tv, so i would have to learn forward to play wii. the wireless one has a much farther range, like 25 feet or so.

also w/the wireless one i find it MUCH easier to hold the cursor steady than w/the original nintendo one.
