wii or 360

pontifex

Lifer
i never really looked into the 360. i've seen many posts on here and people say its great.

i was thinking about the wii but some of the stuff i've heard lately (from people here and on review sites) is making me think twice. somewhat crappy graphics, games not very fun/clunky. the graphics part doesn't concern me too much because i value gameplay over graphics, but i still like my games to look nice.

so give me a reason as to why i should buy a 360? i think fps games on consoles suck, btw.

I may not end up buying either, but just looking at the options right now.

I dont know where you heard that the games were not very fun on the Wii, because everything I've heard about it says the exact opposite. I'm getting the Wii because I know when I have friends over there will be a better selection of games that will appeal to them; Monkey Ball, Mario Kart, etc. The controller will also help my wife's friends play for sure 🙂

I'm sure I will love the Wii games along with 10 or so Gamecube games that I own & haven't had time to play.

Well, you know this forum as good as any Pontifex. The fanboys will be here in no time.

Stick with the PC. Most titles make it to the PC and the controls are far better, as you well know...... along with mods and patches that console gamers do not get.

I agree partialy, as some of the console games will never make it to the PC or any other console in the case of the Wii. PS3 is also another slim to nill PS3-PC game transition.

Uhh...try them out first and see how their like.

I'm pretty glad you didn't put the PS3 as a choice. 😀

The Wii is something any casual gamer can appreciate - it's still loads of fun if you're looking for gameplay over graphics 🙂

As for the PS3... dammit, I want some PC versions of FF already.

To have FFXII and FFXIII on PC would be... amazing. But I'll probably never get to play XIII because the PS3 is so damn expensive 🙁

The Wii is out? How can anyone comment on the games? If you are looking for gameplay over graphics.... I could name many great 2600 games..... many more terrible ones though.....

Well here is game list :
Games worth getting on Wii :
Zelda
Turmour center
Wii sport

Games worth getting on XBOX 360:
Dead rising
Rockstar Table tennis
Burnout 4 Revenge (if you haven't played Burnout revenge on PS2/XBOX)
Gears of War
GRAW (totally different to PC version and much better than XBOX , PS2 version)

Games coming out 06 to Q1 07 :
Viva Pinata (harvest moon type but much better)
Lost planet (capcom Killer App )
Crack down (brings a whole new game play mechanic to GTA type game)
Mass effect (probably the best RPG coming out next year Q1 07)
Forza 2 (your driving sim )

Later in 07 you get more games like halo 3 , Halo War , Fable 2 , Army of Two , Darkness , GtA 5 ect

i would say get the 360. Better graphics, better selection of games, and MUCH better controllers (IMO). I wouldn't be suprised if the Wii will be marketed mostly for younger kids just like the gamecube. I still think the Wii is a nice system and I will probably end up buying it, but xbox 360 would be my first choice.

I'd get a 360. I'm a PC gamer myself and always have been. However, Microsoft really got me in on the first Xbox with some great games. I feel Microsoft brings more PC-like games to their machines which is what attracted me to the first Xbox. This is opposed to the typical Japanese console games which I strayed away from a long time ago (after the first NES). Personally hate all that crap like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy. To me, the Xbox hooked me in because it was simply an easy to use computer that I could sit on my ass and play in front of the big TV with surround sound.

My feelings with the 360 haven't changed. This reason I started to like playing games on my 360 more is just the simplicity of a console. Load times are faster than on a PC most of the time and its easy to just pop in a game and play. Also, I don't think there is anything out there that can touch the cheat-free Xbox Live online gaming. Live is really the deal-breaker in these next-gen consoles I believe. Single player is old news. Multiplayer is where its at and I think only the 360 has a really game plan when it comes to online. I've yet to see what the PS3 or Wii really has to offer here there but I doubt its going to be comparable. They haven't been working on an online service since last generation and don't have the resources like MS to develop something as good as Live.

If I were to buy one NOW, I would go for the 360 because I doubt the other machines are going to have much to offer at first. I just bought 3 games for 360 this month and about to buy another (bought GoW, SC😀ouble Agent, CoD3, and getting R6:Vegas soon). There's alot out and alot coming out for it. The Wii looks like it could be cool but I'd wait for a while for that one. PS3 - well, no chance normal people are going to get one this year anyway so who cares (not that there any games to have for it anyway).

I've got a 360 and I'd say I'm pretty happy with it except for the lack of quality RPGs. I definitely plan on getting GoW this week, and there're some other games on the horizon that look great (Halo3, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed). The Wii definitely caught my eye too, really curious to see how the new controllers handle sports/FPS games. And if you're even the slightest Nintendo fan, you'd wanna pick it up just for Zelda/Mario. As of right now tho, xbox360 would be my first choice since it's been out longer, larger library of games, and xbox live.

I would say xbox 360 as well. I love mine, and now is the time to own one. like others have said, there are a ton of great games on the way within the next few months.

I'm holding out on the Wii to see how it turns out. I want to hear reviews from regular gamers rather than gaming magazines, etc.... but I would love to play zelda :-d

As far as the PS3 goes, it's just too expensive at this point, and good luck finding one. I may get one eventually, as in when they are available and I can get one cheaper than $600. also, I need more games than what is offered right now.

I waited 6 months to buy a 360 until I felt there were enough games to satisfy me.

that would be nice if i had any that had one or was getting one.
there aren't really that many games for the wii that look interesting to me.

PS3 is out because its too damn expensive.

review sites have played them. there was a post about it in OT yesterday. Other people have played them at stores like Gamestop.

i don't know if this would make a difference or not, but I'd be playing the games on my dell 2005fpw or a old 19" tv. no HDTV or anything like that.

Oh man, there are just waaaay too many good games out or coming out. It's hard to point at any one of the particular consoles and say "this is what is going to ultimately satisfy you as a gamer".

What I can tell you, is that I love my 360. I really do. The Wii is going to be great. Grant, this really is just my opinion, but it's going to have more 3rd party support this generation. As far as Sony goes, the PS3 is going to go through some growing pains (much like the 360 has and still is), but in a year it's going to a great as well (albiet expensive).

I would recommend picking up a 360 at EB, purchase the $39 extended warranty (for the protection and peace of mind -it's totalyl worth it) and have some fun. 🙂

I like the idea of pick-up games on both. The PC is good for things like simulators and FPSes. With consoles, you can just pick a game up, play it, and leave. Burnout 3 for the 360? Ooooh, so awesome.

Burnout 3 for the 360 is deffinitly a very fun game. I've put more hours into that game, than any other.
