One of the more recent Wii updates let's the Wii's fan kick on if the WiFi chip is getting too hot, even during Wii Connect 24.

It's a shame it took so long for them to fix the problem, but i don't believe you have to worry about it anymore, as long as you let your Wii update.

Are you certain about that? I thought 3.0 was the latest firmware and I don't remember it having a fan fix.

Same here.

Now i'm starting to have the same problems, although they aren't as bad as the screenshots. I notice small, vertical, black lines during game play. Very annoying.

Question for those of you that have sent your consoles in for repair or got a new one - do you get to keep all your saved game information/VC games?

This issue concerns me quite a bit as well. Do you have an HDTV or no? Do your issues persist on a non-HDTV?

I have witnessed first hand that the Wii does work just fine on some HDTVs but I have never seen these issues. I am currently in the market for my first HDTV soon and I really don't want to hook up my Wii and discover this issue.

Is there an update to the OP? Did the Wii get returned and is it working now on the HDTV? Has anyone else experienced this issue? If you have experienced this issue, have you found a fix?

I'm curious... do/did you have WiiConnect 24 enabled?

It's on an HDTV - I haven't tried it on an SDTV yet. I may do that tonight.

Yes. I've read about that overheating the console. Is this a problem with just older models (I got mine in 02/07) or all Wii's?

AFAIK it's all of them, but I'm not 100% on that. It happens because the fan doesn't work with WiiConnect 24 enabled when it really needs to. Your issue may or may not even be related to that, but that would be one of the possible causes I'd suspect first. I eventually disabled that feature after hearing too many stories about Wiis dying with WiiConnect 24 enabled... which is too bad because I really like the Wii's ability to notify you about messages.

I kept mine on 24 connect for over a year without any problems.

I've always kept Wii Connect on and haven't had a problem with overheating.

My cd drive did start clicking and occasionally messed up when reading discs. Tech support was great for me they found me a walk in repair center rather than having to ship it in and replaced the drive without so much as a single question.

Mine was on nearly a year with no issues too... but then again my original 05 launch Xbox 360 hasn't RRoD'd, I have an original Xbox whose Thomson drive still works, and a launch PS2 whose drive never died. I just read a lot of stories about dead Wiis on various internet forums and in many cases WiiConnect 24 was enabled and ended up being the suspected cause. I don't think Nintendo has ever come out and addressed the issue, but there was just too much smoke for my taste. My Wii is in a well ventilated area and I wasn't expecting any problems, but since WiiConnect 24 wasn't really necessary I just disabled it to be on the safe side... the system does get pretty hot with it on. I know many people have requested that Nintendo enable the fan for WiiConnect via firmware update, but so far it hasn't happened.

That's good to hear. Shows me that the problem is not isolated to Wii Connect since that is constant for every Wii.

That still leaves the display issues using HDTV's though. I would like to hear more on that if anyone has some info. Even posts from people stating that they do not have this issue with their HDTV along with what type of TV they have would be useful.

Well, this issue may or not be related to the WiiConnect 24 issues, but I wouldn't totally discount it either. The theory behind WiiConnect is that it's overheating and frying something inside the Wii. When I stated earlier that I thought the issue applied to 100% of Wiis I didn't mean to make it sound like everyone has their Wii overheat and die from WiiConnect. I just meant that every Wii is a potential victim since AFAIK nothing has been changed with the way it operates. Sort of like how every launch 360 is a potential RRoD victim, but not every one of them has actually had it happen (note: I'm not saying this issue is anywhere near as widespread).

Notice that apparently Saulbadguy's Wii operated normally for a while and then the problem started up. This is the same situation with the OP. His worked for a few months and then he suddenly started seeing the graphical issues. IMO, this would indicate that the TVs are not the problem. Rather it would seem to indicate that something went bad in the Wii over a period of time, hence the overheating theory relating to WiiConnect.

If possible, he could always connect it to another display device (if available) for a few days and see if he sees the same issue. If so, it's definitely the Wii.

Anyway, FWIW, I have a Samsung DLP HDTV and have never seen the issue described here.

That guy is just screwing around with you. I have a Bravia 32" TV (Teh latest super high tech!!1!!1one) and I have 0 problems with my Wii. Glad you finally got a repair # to ship it off. Sounds like a bad GFX chip on your Wii tbh.

Ya that is pretty much what I was thinking as well. Some of the posts lead to my speculation though so I wanted to hear more on it. I can deal with overheating issues that can be fixed in repair or prevented by switching off a software feature. I would be extremely upset if I had to deal with compatibility issues on HDTVs.
