Williams Pinball is surprisingly good, as long as you don't think pinball is boring. It's very cheap.

I've heard Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is very good, but I haven't played it myself. I'll probably pick it up soon. Supposedly it makes very innovative use of the Wiimote's pointing ability.

Mario Kart and SSBB are fun and great for parties, BUT you have to go through hours of repetitive single player gaming to unlock new characters. It's very stupid.

The old standbys of Mario, Metroid and Zelda are all rated highly but I didn't like them myself. Well, I can't speak for Mario Galaxy. But I didn't like Twilight Princess or Metroid Prime 3. Twilight Princess has cruddy waggle controls and Metroid Prime 3, while it has outstanding controls, was very boring IMO. It's just a bunch of repetitive fetch quests with interminable boss battles in between, and very few save points (meaning you often have to play for 30-60 minutes if you don't want to lose your progress). There was very little in the game to hold my interest, after the initial surprise of how well it controls.

I haven't played the Wii version of Resident Evil 4, but I did play it on PS2 and it was an excellent game. I imagine with the Wii's better graphics (compared to the PS2 at least) and the pointing controls, it's even better than the old versions. I've played through the game twice and I'm still considering getting it myself.

Honestly there isn't much worth playing on the Wii besides some of the 1st party titles.

The only ones other than that I can think of are:

Boomm Blox - Really fun and best use of Wii mote.

Okami - great but better on the PS2 because of the controller issues.

as for 3rd party, no more heroes is entertaining, albeit the outer world sucks inbetween boss levels. It's $20 this week at best buy I think (or circuit city, one of the retailers). zack and wiki is good if you like puzzles. RE4 is good, but I can't stand not running and shooting (this is a game mechanic, I never played RE4 before). the rayman games are great with a few ppl.

I cannot say enough good things about Okami, although I played it extensively on the PS2 and haven't tried the Wii version yet (unfortunately, Clover Studios is defunct, so there was no new material added for the Wii port). As an action/adventure, I actually enjoyed it more than Twilight Princess; although the combat can be repetitive, the striking art style and vivid character designs firmly place it in my top 10 list of favorite games ever.

I'm also enjoying No More Heroes, although it's definitely really worth it only if you can find it on sale, instead of the original $50 price tag. The characters are utterly bizarre and funny, and the action is entertaining and completely over-the-top violent (my friend characterizes it, spot-on I think, as the anime video game equivalent of Kill Bill).

I'm probably one of the few people who tried and liked Elebits. If you can get around the somewhat annoying narrated storyline, the Half-Life 2 gravity gun + physics engine game mechanics makes for a pretty good puzzle sandbox, although the command scheme is nowhere near as intuitive as Boom Blox.

Bought Boom Blox this weekend and it is the first game where I could play and have fun by myself, with my 7 year old daughter or my wife. Played several hours of each category and had a lot of fun.

Yeah I can't say enough about this game. I rented it the other day only cuz the Wii I'm playing at the moment is not mine. I bought it for my daughter and I'm making sure it works before I send it to her.

My wife hates video games and never plays them. When she saw boom blox it is the first game I've ever seen her play and she wouldn't put it down. SP is great but MP is even more fun.

PES2008 is awesome on the Wii. I have played PES 6 (older yes) on the PS2, Xbox 360 and PC multiplayer and I have to say that the Wii version blows it away. So much slicker, smoother.... just defending is a bit more difficult (and I was never good at that either).

Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is fantastic. I have not played such an enjoyable fighting game so much since Street Fighter 2. The Wii Controls are excellently implemented although it does take a little bit of practice to not fail with some of the moves you need to pull off to do a special, most are straightfoward however.

Unfortunately, I am awaiting my copy of Naruto: Clash of the Ninja Revolution and Dragon Quest (only released here on Friday) so I cannot review these but Naruto has been given good ratings and looks fun. Dragon Quest looks like a rather simple RPG with a fun Wii control aspect to it.

Okami is firmly on my pre-order list. It is supposedly outstanding and the Wii version is acclaimed to trump the PS2 version in every single level besides one minor graphical issue. That is due for release in about a months time here and it'll be mine when its released.

Boom Blox is cool. Read the thread about it. I'd maybe advise a rental first, but I don't think you'll regret it if you buy it.

If you're interested in a vertical scrolling shooter, Castle of Shikigami III just came out. It's only $30. I haven't played it but I did play the second installment in the series and it's good (if you like bullet hell).

The earlier Zelda games are related to the newer Zelda games in the exact same way that earlier Final Fantasy games are related to the newer ones (ignoring games that share the same number, like X-2 or FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus): they share character names and some basic concepts (heart containers, boomerang, hookshot, etc.) but playing later games don't really require knowledge of (or spoil) previous entries.

And in fact you might enjoy Twilight Princess more since you haven't played any Zelda games in the past. I had played a few Zelda games previously, and by the time I got to Twilight Princess, it just seemed like a rehash with very similar gameplay to previous 3D versions of the game. But if it's new to you, you'll probably like it.

Really, trust the people who say that there's very little continuity among Zelda games. I don't know if you've played any Final Fantasy games, but they're all different, with totally different characters. They usually follow a certain style, but the storylines aren't persistent.

Zelda is almost like that. Unlike FF, the Zelda series always features the same characters. You're Link, you save the land of Hyrule (ruled by Princess Zelda) from the evil monster Ganon (or Ganondorf, depending on the game). Those three are in every game. But the story isn't persistent across games. You could think of them as all existing in parallel universes or something. A lot of people have made a pretty big deal out of the Zelda continuity, but there's not much to say. The games are related only in that they're all similar, but there is no developing storyline. It's always the same story.

That's why I say you'll probably enjoy the game more having not played previous games. Since Zelda games are all basically the same thing, it gets tiring to save Hyrule over and over again. But if you've never played one before, it should be a lot more fun.

I'll agree with others and say you can play Twilight Princess without fear of spoilers or missing plot points. There's no real overall story, each game is pretty much self contained. The character you play as is just an average dude at first, and has no history as a hero or anything. There are similar elements between the games, but nothing that really matters for the current game.
(Maybe Majora's Mask and Phantom Hourglass are exceptions in that they are actually definite sequels to another game, but even there the continuity is not important or stressed)
Anyway TP is a good game

I was a PC gamer too, until I got my Wii in April 2007 (I also have a PS3).

Here's a list of games I have currently, and notes on each game:

-Wii Sports: Of course, it came w/the Wii
-Wii Play: Got the game for the 2nd controller, a good choice to play with multiplayer, and perhaps by yourself if you have nothing else better to do, but it does get dull fast
-Super Paper Mario: Fun, descent Mario game to have
-Resident Evil 4: I really enjoyed this game with the Wii's motion controls
-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: Currently, I haven't finished this game as I am stuck at a certain point. I thought it was OK, not bad, but I found myself playing other games. As for the story, I didn't think I was missing a whole lot by not playing previous Zelda games, so I believe you should be fine if you get the game.
-Super Smash Bros. Brawl: I enjoyed the original SSB, so I got this game. It's OK-perhaps it's just me, or I should play more, but I didn't think the controls were responsive. I haven't played with other people, but I'm sure this would be really good to play w/friends.
-Mario Kart Wii: I enjoyed previous Mario racing games, so I decided to get this. I only played for one day, but I liked it. What I didn't like is (at least in single player-I haven't played with friends yet too with this title) that people behind you will get many more power-ups like blue shells to trip you up, especially if you are in first place. Of course, I'm not an expert, even when playing previous Mario Kart games, so there are probably tricks and other things to negate this.

Hope you have fun with the games you get!
