Wii for me!

This seems like more of an off topic thing.

I scored a Wii console +2 controllers/chucks+wii sports+another game barely used and still under warranty off craigslist for $325. Just picked it up locally, no shipping charges or tax (obviously). That's a killer price, just look at them on ebay. Now I have to decide if I want to keep it or resell it for a quick $100+. I'm leaning toward reselling it right now, since they're so high in demand, but maybe I should just accept my good bargain and keep it. I do really want one after all, but prices will go down in the future and I could pick one up another time. What do you think?

I finally got one at Toys 'R Us for $249.99. Waited in line at 4AM. They had 92 of them and I was #86. I can rest now.

is there any good fishing games for the wii yet? i just picked one up for the heck of it and cant decide whether to sell or keep. super mario and fire emblem are possibles but with all the other great games that came out this season i can live without them for a while. if theres a decent fishing game(one i saw on ign got 2.7 score ) it would convince me to keep it.

Might be some fishing in zelda - A good fishing game would be pretty cool. I would prefer it more as a sidegame though than an entire game devoted to fishing.

Today I'm leaning a little bit toward keeping the Wii. I have done 0 research on mod chips for the Wii. I'll order one today if I decide to keep it. What's the lowdown on Wii modchips? Any of them non-solder? I'm one of those people who just can't operate a soldering iron no matter what the circumstances.

Then you're not putting a mod chip in. Get someone to do it for you, or just forget about it.
Early wiis had pads for the diagnostics hardware to connect to straight from the factory, but new wiis have the diagnostics pins on the drive controller chip cut. That means you have to solder right onto the pins of the microchip, and may even need to dremel the chip in order to expose enough of the pins to solder onto.

Trust me, if you can't look around your room right now and say "Boy, it sure is wonderful to own several hundred dollars or more of soldering equipment" then you don't have the skills or tools necessary to even think about attempting it. You could possibly find someone to do it, but finding someone with that kind of skill is rare, and someone with the tools to do it is even rarer.
There are professional mod chip services, but they're risky (who knows if you can trust some random person over the net) and will charge you an arm and a leg. You could easily pay over the price of a brand new wii just to get one modded.

kinda going off topic but i dont think its a very hard skill to acquire. though i will concede that if you screw up then you can probably say goodbye to whatever youre working on. fixing a booboo is a lot harder then getting it right the first time.

I guess I do have one of the older versions of the Wiis (D2B or something). Anyone know a good place to get a modchip for it? I hear Wiikey is the most liked.

Yes the Wiikey is what you'd want to use. Normally can be had for $25 shipped or so, and its rather easy to install compared to the other ones.

To the OP, I would not sell it now. Not too many moms are looking to place a used Wii under the tree for their kids. Most are only looking for new sealed ones.

That is a fake Wiikey that you linked to, its not even listed as an official reseller on the Wiikey site. http://www.wiikey.cn/resellers.html

Sadly no US based companies can legally sell the Wiikey, so you'll have to buy one from a Canadian distributer. Modchipcentral.com is a good reseller, as if canadamods.ca.

Earlier chipsets can use the six wire Wiikey which isn't too bad, but as Fox5 mentioned Nintendo started to make it harder but cutting the trace to the pads and even cutting the pins. And then came the D2C chips, I think there are now some 13-wire modchips but originally the only option was a 28-wire install. :Q

I have a legit Wiikey and love it, has worked great for me so far. Keep in mind to backup your games you'll need a Hitachi/LG DVD-ROM, there are about half a dozen models that work I think, just do a Google search for Wii backup guide and it should bring up info on what drives work and what software is needed.

I've heard people are pretty happy with the fake wiikeys...they just clone them and sell them for a lot less. But, I'm up for buying the original also, I need to buy from some place that can ship out quickly so I can get it by the end of the week. Would really appreciate it if someone could hook me up with the right store - They're not super easy to find.

I bought an original mainly for peace of mind. Clones are probably 100% fine but I just didn't want to take the risk. I remember there were a lot of people on Wiinewz having problems with the SMG update, chances are it was due to their install but I can't help but think it may have had to do with chips being clones as well. Mine updated without a hitch. It probably varies from clone to clone as well, some may be lower quality than others.

I don't know what would be the best store, but I ordered mine from foundmy.com (which is on the wiikey.cn certified reseller list). It's in the US so you should be able to get it pretty quick. They have a kit which includes the Wiikey, tri-wing screwdriver (necessary to open the case), wire, and solder for $26.

Yeah it's really hard to find a site that sells the wiikey. All sites that sell modchips are naturally very shady. Do you really need one of those triangular screwedrivers?

The Wii is a lot of fun so far, just playing the simple wii sports.

And yea I thought the sports games were really fun too...for about the 1st week then they get old.
