I was just looking for something which burns an adequate amount of calories and maybe adds a little tone. I am not overweight and I do not eat unhealthy, but I don't do any exercise either. My metabolism is pretty good, but burning a chunk of my daily calories would do well to keep my weight neutral. If it does that, then I will be happy.

Wiifit may add a little more activity to your schedule, and no offense to you, but damn do I hate the term "add a little tone".

Political correctness FTL. Don't let the little things bother you. 😉

Yourself!Fitness, or even Wii Sports

You can play WiiSports with minimal effort and get more of an exercise during a Baywatch marathon. You kind of can't put in minimal effort into DDR and still actually pass a song. Unless of course you do the slowest song on easy and put the bar depletion on very easy.

Sure you can. Just use a regular controller instead of a mat. 😉

While the game itself might not give you a total ass kicking workout, its still useful in many ways. For one thing, the way it will graph your BMI/Weight each day so you can track yourself becoming more and more of a fatass in real time is definitely quality motivation. Also, last I've read, you can input other workout activities you've done, etc.

The way I see it, Wii fit on its own isnt going to do it, but its a pretty spiffy addition to any workout routine. Most of the games look like a good warmup, the jogging would probably work well on a treadmill, etc.

Still though, if its a success (and it most likely will be), it wont be too hard for a third party to come out with a real legit personal training software - then again, if current 3rd party software is any indication....ugh.

I dont know if you can really compare a plastic shell that holds an existing controller, to something that offers completely new functionality. 🙂

To clarify my comment about the zapper, I mentioned it as an additional item to buy for the wii. No developer will make a game with that use in mind, sans maybe the couple that came out at the time of the release.

My fear is the same thing happens for the wii fit. Buy it, and never see a decent game make use of it. I would like to be proven wrong, but I'm doubtful.

Gotcha. That I can also totally see happening. Balance board is very niche and most likely, the only games we'll see for it are WiiFit & WiiFit2:Grandma Takes Manhattan

No way - I believe a snowboarding game that will make use of the balance board has already been announced. I could see that being incredibly fun.

Aww but that just ruins the fun 🙁. But it can be kind of hard though... I have "PSP Revolution" for my PSP... it's pretty much a homebrew knock-off of DDR. It's really hard to hit those doubles from what I've found simply because it's not that easy to hit two of the directions on the PSP at once... probably a limitation of the d-pad. Maybe I should try to see if I can use the buttons on the right.

But that'd be akin to playing Guitar Hero with the controller... but I guess they want you to do that too with the achievements that they added in GH3 .

Assuming it's actually good. If it's terrible, publishers might take that as no one wants it, so lets just not put time into it. There has yet to be a bowling game to match Wii Sports.

Plenty of great ideas, just very little has translated over to success IMO.

Except that you can play all of wiisports sitting on your ass with 1-2 inch movements of the wii-mote. I actually pitched faster in baseball by just turning my wrist over and not doing the whole pitching motion.

But it's less fun that way. It kinda kills the point. That plus I think bowling would be pretty tough without standing.

We'll see. What they should really do is have all of the initial games come packaged with the board the game in addition to the board and games being sold as stand alones. I think that would help increase sales. Buying things in a package tends to attract more customers who would initially be turned off by the idea of being forced to buy a separate expensive accessory for just one game even though the reality is that buying a package isn't much different beyond a minor discount.
