Or has anyone gotten it to work with g-only? I just got the Wii for christmas, and use g-only with wpa-psk AES on my network (have to use g-only for my bridges) and it seems absurd that it wouldnt be able to connect to a g only network.

i cant help but wonder if its not a b/g adapter in it, but just a b adapter like the DS, which is why it may require mixed mode :-/

this comes from the nintendo site, but i was wondering if someone had gotten it to work g only anyway. normally id post this kind of thing in networking....except my network works :)

anyone? thanks :)

I'm using G only on my main router and it connected fine. Strangely enough, it wouldn't connect to my B-only router that lives in the front room for my HTPC and consoles.

I can't tell you my settings on the Wii as I don't have anymore.

Hmm... I'm quite sure my router at home is in G only mode, but I will check for sure when I get home tonight.

The wii has a b/g adapter.

From Nintendo.com
Choosing a Wireless Router

The Wii is designed to be compatible with most home wireless routers and security standards. While we do not have a list of specific supported routers, checking for the following features on a router can help ensure you pick one that is compatible with the Wii. Remember that you must have a highspeed Cable or DSL internet connection in order to connect your Wii online.

What to look for:

* 802.11G/ 802.11B (or mixed)
Most routers currently sold offer these settings. Check the box to make sure the router supports these broadcast standards. Routers that mention 802.11N or pre-N (as well MIMO) may not be compatible with the Wii.

* WEP and WPA/WPA2 encryption
The Wii is compatible with WEP, WPA and WPA2 encryption methods if you wish to enable wireless security on your router.

There are several different WPA variations. The Wii is compatible with:
o WPA - PSK (TKIP)
o WPA - PSK (AES)
o WPA2 - PSK (AES)

when i said my info came from the nintendo site, *thats* exactly what i meant, hence my asking the question.

i couldnt get it connected in g only, or b/g, with or without security. ill fiddle with it more in a bit back on g mode unsecured and see if i can get it to work, 3 laptops in that part of the home work fine so ill just spend some time with it

thanks for the input everyone :)

Make sure you broadcast your SSID. It's highly recommended that you do for compatibility reasons, and if you're not that could be what you're running into.

I use 802.11G only and it works fine with the wii.

I was unable to get any WPA encryption to work with mine.

Since the only neighbors within range are in thier late 60's and 80's I just run WEP and don't broadcast the SSID (although I think I did to get the initial connection - made it easier). Of course I'm running in mixed B/G mode also.

Mine is running on a b/g mixed network with WPA encryption, and it is on channel 9.
